The Z Wave

I don't give a sh*t whether they wave or flash back, I'll flash 'm anyhow!
But last time the other one did wave back though :D

Well in my old models had a few nod even z3 owners. Even had people let me out and nod with delight.

Last new model nothing, and from other road drivers nothing but anger, the first 3 weeks had so much issue I was thinking of selling.

My nice new red one get loads of nods and waves, even horn blowing from other drivers, its so strange.

There is nothing wrong with a mid life crisis, it's cheaper than having an affair. As for average age, whilst I may not be as good as I once was, I'm still as good once as I ever was.

Actually if you really want to talk descriptive statistics and which are appropriate, which measure of central tendency you use depends on what kind of data you have and whether it follows a normal distribution patterns, i.e. 95% of the scores fall within 2 standard deviations of the mean, it is not skewed and there are no outliers. In a normal distribution curve incidentally, the mean, mode and median all fall in the same place - so it wouldn't matter. Everyone (whoever they might be) does in fact NOT use the mean.
There can be more than mode, e.g. bimodal, which gives this measure more meaning.
In the above example with thousands of member, one low score would not bring the mean down by any significant amount.
Anyway, back to the point of my earlier post which was merely banter, rather than serious attempt at teaching statistics....

At least that wasn't an attempt to sound more intelligent and back pedal by talking irrelevant nonsense :L My age being less than the average or "mean" age will reduce it I dint say by a lot or quantify it. And teach statistics.... don't flatter yourself

Funnily enough I had the chance to smile & wave to a 13 plate AUDI TFSI driver today & the chic in the seat next to him as we drew level & turned in different directions at a roundabout.

Earlier he'd been trying to hump my exhaust for a couple of miles while I was behind a lorry & when the time came to overtake on a nice stretch, try as he might we had to say goodbye... :driving:

I bring the average age down at 19  bringing some youthful spirit and energy to the group I reckon
:poke: :fuelfire:

Average ( or more accurately mean ) is the total number of scores added together divided by the number of scores........ youth of today. *shakes head sadly*
The mode might be more useful.
!

The fact I am doing a Mechanical Engineering and Maths degree currently I would beg to differ, average and mean two sides of a coin and two words for the same thing, yes I agree mean is the more mathematically correct terminology but less "conversation" friendly than average. And by me joining the group and being younger I will lower the average or mean age.

The mode is of no statistical value what so ever, the mode is the value that appears most often in a set of data. So for example at a guess there may be 15 people who are 35, this is the most common value and therefore the modal value. I wouldn't affect the mode age only the average or mean age and possibly the range if I am the new "youngest person" :poke: The youth rebel as usual

Scott B is correct. Why on earth would you use the mode to describe age?! If you have outliers in your distribution, use the median. Take an example of ages: 19, 20, 27, 35, 47 years. The mean is 29.6 years and the median is 27 years (the median is the observation which 50%of the observations are above and 50% below). Now take another set of ages with outliers: 10, 20, 27, 35, 65 (the outliers are 10 and 65). The median age is still 27; however the mean is now 31.4. Therefore ScottB is correct an extreme observation will skew the average. So when you have outliers report the mean and median!

No sir, I wasn't saying there's anything wrong with someone going through a "mid life crisis", I was just saying they seem to make up the majority of buyers!

and @dizzyblonde looks like the "youth of today" aren't so bad after all.

The average person that buys the Z4 is usually an old guy or a guy going through his mid life crisis. Usually never enthusiasts.
I picked up my Z4 coupe three weeks before my 40th birthday :D
And I didn't pass my test until I was 32!!! My family didn't have a car when I was 17 and moving to central London meant not bothering to learn until I moved back to Oxford aged 31.

Since passing my test though I have had an R53 Mini cooper, a brand new R56 Cooper S, a BMW 123d coupe and now my Z4.

I think that shows a bit of enthusiasm :)

Every time I've flashed or waved to someone, all I've got is a funny look :(

I used to own a Vespa PX and every time you'd see another Vespa rider you'd always get a nod and a smile.

Great discussion on stats, personally I would struggle to find a topic more dull  funny read though, reminds me of GCSE and A levels.

Anyhow ... On the waves, I've had a couple. One provoked and one thrown at me first! To be honest when I'm concentrating driving, which is most of the time I often would spot a zed but not have time to realise if they waved or not if on an a road etc ...

If you want a wave or nod get a motorbike,my neck is aching from returning the acknowledgement from other bikers when i've been out on the bike all day.
