The World Cup exit

The solution is obvious, we need to spend more money, how can you expect players to be motivated for a Ferrari or so a week or paying a manager a paltry few million. I wouldn't get out of bed for it.

Couple of questions:

1. How does an entire sport end up being pretty much run by one man (same in Formula 1!!)
Bit rubbish really, not sure on that one. Strange thing is, your can almost understand Bernie Ecclestone as he's got so much money in the sport. Sepp Blatter is appointed? Do you really appoint someone and give them that much authority?

2. How do we end up paying a manager several times more than his next rival?
I think it's this: the verbal / written hammering that the England team and manager will get now (and rightly so). It won't be business like and it will drag on. In the same way it will add pressure to the team the next time they're on a big stage, it also makes it impossible to get a decent manager. Very few managers want to take the job on and those that do need big financial incentives (compensation). The press and national mood scared off even Felipe Scolari!

Don't get me wrong, England failed to perform and I'm utterly gutted. Devastated really. On paper we're very good, on the pitch, not so good. But as a nation I think the way we deal with defeat only exacerbates the problem. :fuelfire:

I'm looking forward to playing England in the Euro Qualifiers now :D

If you lot play like that we have a good chance of finally qualifying for a tournament

:poke:

If the Lampard effort had counted we would have still lost, and deservedly so. All 4 games we played we were crap.

I can't think of any "profession" where people that get paid so much money can perform so badly. All the excuses are rubbish - e.g. how can somebody who is paid in excess of £130000 per week suddenly turn into a person with no talent because he is 10 yards away from where he normally plays...? If language is a barrier, use an interpreter - we can afford to pay the manager millions, but don't make provision to make him understood?

All nuts - another 4 years...

indeed... its obscene

Fabio Capello is one of the great managers in football as his track record proves. However listening to the media today it turns out he is a muppet. Funny that the only place he fails is England. I don't think its fair to criticise his linguistic skills either. When he took the job he couldn't speak a word of English and now he does a decent job of holding press conferences in english. He's made a real effort.

England will be destined for failure because in England club football takes precedence over the national team and always will whilst the Premier League exists as it does.
