The wiper saga of 2013

You may have read from my previous thread that my wipers have stopped working. Actually, they will suddenly kick back into life every so often, but not often enough! I've had the fuses, relays and wiring checked, and have also had the grease cleaned out from the motor. The auto electrician who looked at it yesterday feels it must be the control unit, but that BMW would need to confirm with their computer.

Looks like I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and spend the cash at BMW :-( I've booked it in at Cooper BMW in York. Wish me luck!

Stupid wipers.

I feared going to a main dealer for a long time, turns out that when I finally did it was actually much cheaper than everyone thought and I ended up wishing I had gone in the 1st place as it would have saved time and money.

Good luck

Hope you're right!

Been googling this morning.... As far as I can tell the control unit they referred to must be the GM5 module, located near the fuse box behind / below the glovebox. It controls several things including the wipers.

Well, BMW had my car for all of two hours to tell me one of the relays is burnt out. Gonna cost £107 in total for the repair. No clue why the auto electrician who looked at it said the relays were fine....unless BMW found a different relay that was faulty?

Anyway, fingers crossed the wipers are now fixed!!!

Just picked up my car - wipers good so far! Was very pleasantly surprised that they washed it and cleaned the interior as well! It smells lovely in there :-)

They also did an overall inspection free of charge and unfortunately I have a broken rear spring. Dammit! They said it'd be £150 to replace it for me.

Will likely book it in soon. Is it dangerous to drive with a broken spring?

so many people don't know they have a broken spring. Get it fixed ASAP but if you drive sensibly then you'll be fine.

Others will suggest picking up a set of eibachs for less than £150 and doing all 4 which will also lower a bit.

YES - your insurance company and the boys in blue would see this as a critical failure. Get it fixed - takes about 30 mins to do.

Shame about the little gremlins Cassie, hope that's the end of them for you and you can enjoy your Z to the full when Spring finally shows its head

If you need a couple or one rear spring give me a pm, as I'll be taking them off my breaker today and won't want much for them.

Thanks foxy ;-) Unfortunately I didn't see this in time!

I now have a brand-new spring fitted. I went ahead and had it done at Coopers BMW York. I told them to replace both rear springs but they said the other one was still practically new so they didn't swap it. I do seem to remember that the place I bought it from had a rear spring replaced.

Driving home last night the ride seemed much, much better. Every little pothole used to make the whole interior rattle and now it's quiet :-) :-)

Hopefully now I can finally save up for a few upgrades! My new Intravee just came in the post, so that's a start! :-)

Woohoo, Intravee now up and running :-) now I really need to get my head around the menu / search functions.

I really wish you could quickly scroll through the alphabet for artists or albums, but it doesn't look like it's possible. For example, to choose the artist 'Lady Gaga', I have to scroll through loooooads that come before it, which is a bit of a pain. Couldn't imagine how long it'd take to scroll to an artist starting with 'z'!

It scrolls round, so going for a direct to z is pretty quick. You'll also find that playlists are pretty useful!

Tapatalking...

Cool. Need to setup some playlists!

Do you alter the treble / bass on the iPod or the head unit? The bass on dance tracks sounds a bit distorted to me.
