Gave the car a good waxing on Sunday. I let it dry as normal and wiped off with the usual lint free cloth.

Trouble is that this morning I saw smudges of wax on both sides of the car. It is though a faint bit of wax had been smeared in the wet on my car and the person had tried to rub it in.

It has rained really bad my way the last few days but I did get every last bit of wax off the car 4 days ago when I applied it. I don't think I applied it too thick so not sure why this has happened.......

Any ideas on this guys?

What product did you use? What did you use to apply (what type of applicator), indoors or outdoors, how long was it left on the car? Etcetera.

It was Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection. I used the normal little circular applicator in a circular movement. It was outdoors (about to rain but never did that day) It was left on for about 10-20 minutes. It seemed dry as it flaked off when I touched it.

The "usual" problem with applications of this type of product is that too much was applied. It may not have cured long enough as well. In any event I would buy some type of quick detailing solution like Meguiar's Quick Detailer Gold Class to wipe off the excess. I would seriously consider getting a Porter Cable 7424 for applying a wax/protectant as it really helps apply a smooth and consistent amount of product to the surface of the car.

Thanks. I'll give the Meguiars product a go this weekend after I've waxed it. The Porter Cable I'm not too sure about as I worry about marking the car or making swirl marks in the paintwork. Does it make a grwat difference over doing it by hand?

There are different pads and different product used to remove swirls and other imperfections on the Porter Cable. It also helps with applying waxes etc evenly to the surface. First let's see if the Quick Detailer works for you.

The Autoglym product is meant to be left on the car a lot longer than 10-20 mins. i think it should be on there for about 30-40 iirc. It can be hard work to get off but looks good, especially if you put it on over a pre-polished surface.

Good stuff, haven't had chance to even wash the car since but should give it a go this weekend.

I've never used Autoglym, is the 30-40 minutes a "cure time"?

yes, i think so. The normal polish will normally dry in about 5-10mins. but the Extra Gloss protection is a different product entirely and has to be left for a lot longer - i think it has a number of different waxes in it.

Have you got the bottle? It should say on th back of that.

Porter Cable will not make any swirls. It will remove all swirls and scratches... Use PC with Menzerna polish 106FA and then wax

Slightly off topic - but i kind of see a business opportunity here - i.e. "How to clean your car like a pro" £50 for 2 hours hands on advise, 5 cars at a time - you'll make a packet!!!

p.s - if anyone coins this idea - i want 25% - im not greedy!
