The usual conundrum

I actually agree with others. The Z4 is so much fun, whereas the DD can be anything - why does it need to be a Merc? You've already said it was dull, so is badge identity that important to you? Ditch the old man Merc, buy a cheaper car, keep the Zed - solved

That was my thinking - have a cheapy daily so you can drive it or leave it anywhere without worrying about it! And if badge identity is important to the OP, there are older Mercs that have aged reasonably well and may even start to appreciate - I'm thinking W123 or W124.

Not all about the badge but the money put into it. It's relatively new more practical etc

I want to keep both but the other half won't be happy with that when it could chop 20k off the mortgage or open other opportunities if I didn't have the outgoing.

34k on the Z and 14k on the MB

Mainly as I'm doing more trips in the MB.

Z is good fun but feels a bit old now. MB power train is nowhere near but a much better every day car

Maniac, it's starting to sound as though your decision's firming up. Matron will be along shortly with blanky, a cup of tea and your favourite slippers.

But what price fun..... and surely you're not going to abandon your Z with classic status just around the corner? :driving:

Seriously - tough choice. :(

The wife and I both have practical cars, I have a new E Class estate (very comfortable will eat up the miles no problem) but actually quite dull to drive, my wife has a 1 year old Mazda CX5 which again is very comfortable and useful but not exactly the type of car you would jump into to go for an enjoyable days drive.

We also have a 1971 MG Midget which wasn't being used due to being too impractical, heavy manual hood for the wife which she found difficult, very small for me etc.

Hence we bought the 12 year old Z4, we keep it for sunny days and Sundays and cost us £4k, so why not keep the Merc sell the current Z4 and buy an older model and pocket the cash or keep it for upgrades fixes etc?

This way you get the best of both worlds.

Because the Merc will still be £19k to purchase at the end of the current deal and I'd use the Z to fund it.

So it's one or the other to end paying out.

I don't envy your conundrum M, and it reinforces my doubts about ever going down the PCP route.

If you didn't have the Merc and saw it sitting on a forecourt for £19k would you think 'Mmmm, I'll chop in the Z for that'?

or are you just thinking of selling the Z because you've spent money on the Merc over the last 2 years?

It sounds like you have had your fun out of cars and just want to put that money into your mortgage but dont want the short Merc ownership to have cost you lots of money with nothing to show for it.
I think I would ditch them both and buy something slightly cheaper if I wanted to put money into a mortgage.
I think you mentioned having another car as well, what about getting rid of them all and have one nice car.
Is your partner contributing as well and have their own car too?

I was suggesting replacing both of them with something both fun to drive and practical. Not sure what you have in the U.K. but if it was in the USA something like a Mazda Hatch, or other sport SUV, crossover type.
