The traffic "down south."

I just came back from my road trip to the South of France last week.
We came back via the channel tunnel and disembarked about 4.30 pm on a Tuesday night. Following instructions from my sat-nav we then drove up M20, then onto M25 northward, then under the Dartford crossing, then onto M25 and onward via M11 and A1M.
I could not believe how bad the traffic was - there was a 5 mile queue for the southward crossing at Dartford. I feel sorry for all you southerners who have to put up this this sort of traffic every day. I really must have a sheltered life, living up here in the wilderness of the "north."

Having spent 12 years living in Hampshire commuting in out of London nearly everyday I can honestly sat I miss it like a hole in the head.

Was down that way a few weeks ago and SWMBO hated every minute of the journey once we got past Oxford and the traffic started building up.

The goalposts have moved now, I get stuck behind 2 cars and think I'm in jam these days.

Seriously, i don't know how people cope with the M25 each day, crazy place, but then being on motorway around Birmingham or Manchester used to be a nightmare, haven't been that way for a while though.

On the rare occasions I have to get in the car at that sort of time in the morning, I leave really early to avoid that.

On the few times i have been on the M25 in rush hour just have to sit back and admire the other drivers reading their books/ newspapers etc.

But still better then sitting 1 hour in the tube without air conditioning - in summer with hot smelly people around you!

took me 3 hours, yes 3 hours to get to broxbourne from redhill to visit my sister on.... Saturday!

just nuts, and no way could I do the M25 everyday, hence train and bike to work

On my regular commutes to Norwich I leave home at 5:00AM to get through the tunnel by 6:00AM to miss all the traffic, although 7:00AM at the tunnel going North seems OK.

The problem going south over bridge is caused by the roadworks, when they were further north they didn't seem to have much effect, but now they are right before the bridge it's causing problems.

Let's hope they are gone soon.
