Last week I passed the 40,000 mile marker on my car, at just over 18 months of, on the whole, happy ownership. Things that I am happy about are: -

It really does just eat the miles up with consummate ease
I still absolutely love driving it, looking at it admiringly and yes the best car I have owned, certainly the most fun
I am still on my original tyres after swapping them round at 26,000 miles
The cars lifetime average speed is 48.2 mph
The cars lifetime fuel economy figure is an indicated 38.1 mpg
Cost of ownership excluding lease, insurance, tax and fuel is zero, yes zero, nadda, not a thing
My next service is at 53,000 miles and/or March 2012 (brake fluid change) and will be my last inclusive service

The only real complaint is the stereo which is absolute crap

How is the cost of ownership zero?!?!? :P

Glad youre liking it. Must say, the new Zer is a really nice looking motor.

Okay, so it certainly isn't free, but my point was that there was no extra cost like tyres, brakes etcetera :)

What in the hell are those tyres made of?! I guess a large amount of your miles are motorway cruising, but even at that use that's seriously impressive for tyres to last that distance :)

Just the standard Bridgestones, I swapped them round (front to rear) at 26,000 miles so that I could replace them all with Continentals or similar, yet to be decided

Impressive tyre wear, or lack of!

My father actually received an award from his company for getting 40k from his tyres year in year out, back in his reaping days.

Might have to follow in your footsteps one day

Give your Dad, Mr Grim my regards :D

It's the motorway miles, still have 4mm on the rears too, my aim should be to get 50,000 miles out of them, but I do occasionally like to have fun with the loud pedal

Glad you do!

His were motorway miles too, but if you hit 50k he should give you his awards!

Used to get lectured as a young lad when mine only lasted 8k!

Aren't the rears a different width? did you swap sides ? (not good with a directional tire) I got almost 40000 KMs on mine and the rears were toast on the inside and I was lucky to get that much.... good on you for 40k miles

No they are the standard 225/R17/45 all-round, they seem to offer greater levels of grip in the wet/damp than the 255/R18 that I had on my last Zed, not twitchy at all.

I am in two minds at the moment as to getting a used set of MV3's for when I actually do change tyres.....hmmmm, they look good on the e85.....any thoughts

No ideas...I have 19" staggered on mine. Look great but are costly , very costly.

wow on you tyre post dont bother changing 40K ill have some of that.

on ownership my last z4 had its first mor, and £800 later for new pads alround and front disks yes disks 1 set of pads per disk, it had only done 36K in the 3 years (I had it 2 years from 6K) so no different from the other 2 how I drove, but that service cost 1K. the others nothing like that just oil and normal service and tyres.

you must have a delicate foot lol
