Im trying to explain what's a Sound Generator ?
Anyway ..Yesterday after I returned home from my new Starbucks Family ..
I decided to do a mod on the Zed ...
Now I know you here luvs everything German ..
But this is so BMW and by extension ...Germannn
So the mod is to "The Sound Generator"
You should be thinking ..WTF is a Sound Generator? ..
Cause like any normal person, you wouldn't have ever heard of one ..
But this is a German device ...
And those people pride themselves on their engineering superiority ..
So with some time on their hands and lint already removed from their navels ..
I guess they decided to fabricate a sound generator ..
You may be familiar with exhaust sounds ..and how they can be tuned for performance and noise.
But the other side of the engine ..Where carburators used to exist .where the air cleaner used to live ..
Well that side also produces a sound which most people don't even know about ..
But that side can make a huge wail when the throttle is depressed ..
So those Germans decided to play with that ..
Modified it to distribute engine noise into the cabin ..
And then some other Germans decided to quiet it again ..
And the Zed Car ...Supposedly an engineering exercise ..
Is left with a sound generator device that is now 'muffled' to mask its purpose ..
What is it ? you should be thinking ?
Well there is a bracket on the intake manifold that has a convoluted pipe attached to it. The pipe worms ..
(Pronounces (Verms I expect )
Worms its way to the firewall (engine side of the dash board)
And there it is mated to a 'port' that goes into the passenger cabin I hope..
This plastic pipe apparently is supposed to route the sound of the intake roar into the interior so the passengers can enjoy the audible experience of this wail ...
But ..
You already appreciate how one person's pleasure is another person's trouble ...
That's why we have Rock and Roll ..and Country and Western ..
So this tube I was talking about ...
Expertly designed with perfect harmonics ..
Then redesigned to block those sounds from ever escaping ..
Well that second design is accomplished by stuffing both ends of the tube with foam sound blockers !! (my name for it ..German's call it gawd knows what)
So the buzz here is that if you remove just one of the foam sponges..
That will allow just enough of that audible elixir into the cabin ...To make you grow another inch !! at least !!!!
Im not talkin height here ! ..Its a testosterone thing !!!
As a side note ..
Not all model Zeds have the Sound Generator mechanism ..
Just the higher end machines ...
So there is much Sound Generator Envy from those who are less endowed ....
Sad but very true ...Some missed that on their option list !
Sorry to burst your bubble ..
But after I removed one foam stopper (as many warned that taking both out would be way too much excitement )
But with one stopper out ..
Well I must need my ears to be checked ..
Cause I can't tell any difference ..
And trust me ..I took out my ruler and measured it !
Disappointingly the same !
But I still have the other foamy left in tact ..So you never know when I might get reckless ..ha ha
You probably are scratching you head about now and wondering ..Why Bumpy Why ?
This German fixation ...
They create stuff like "Sound Generators "
That embellish and transmit intake 'sound'
And then create a solution to that noise ???
I just don't get it ?
