So on Monday I get a call from the Head of PE at my son's school asking if I could manage their U13 rugby team this morning for their first fixture, as they are short of staff for various reasons. No worries, I know many of the boys and it'll be a recruitment opportunity as I run the local club U13s

Then I get a call at 4pm yesterday... Could I also referee the match ? Weeeeellll... Ok. I have been refereeing for a few years now, so what could I say ? Unfortunately club rugby Laws for youths are slightly different up to U12, as are numbers on the pitch... and I have never refereed a 15-a-side match on a full size pitch under pretty much full Laws. I am ridiculously nervous - should be an interesting morning  :D

Best of Luck Bing.

Question..
Don't you need some sort of teaching qualification and screening to be able to teach / coach Kids in a school setting?

Also probably not a good Idea to post on 'tinternet that you are scouting for young boys

Cheers Nosa (and Carol M)

I have a Level 1 RFU coaching qualification & been coaching for 6 years now, am a Level 2 qualified referee, and am of course also fully CRB checked - all good 8)

Went well, my lot won 27-24, but only because the opposition committed a high tackle in their 22 in the last minute... Lack of discipline under pressure. Felt a bit guilty when my lot then scored, but it needed penalised & the opposition coaches agreed. It is damn hot down here today though - was hard work, now knackered...

Oh, and I was of course recruiting for my club team, not for myself - might have found a new hooker :|

Do you still have to have a different CRB for different activities? I had one for teaching TKD but would have needed another one for other activities. They were talking about sorting it such that one CRB counted for anything while it was valid

Technically you do still need a different one, but the school chose to accept mine for now. If I do it again they will need to have it done for me. Not sure it is needed for refereeing only - will ask.

Yeah, but they got it all the way down the line from one side of the pitch to the other, through him at centre and back to him supporting on the wing, so it wasn't straight over the line :P

He had his angry head on and was all over the place, but suffered afterwards from a sore back and shoulder so couldn't train with the Club yesterday.
