The rattle BMW may not be able to cure...

I had a rattle in my car and was calling the dealer to book it in. Originally I thought it was the seat belt or the one of the panels being lose. My mate who is just a big a bloke as me got in the car and I noticed the rattle started coming. A couple of weeks have passed and today it clicked. I am that tall that my leather seats are banging off the panels! I tried to move the seat away but it doesn't work for me as my biting point gets all out of place meaning I can't drive in comfort!

Anyone got any advice?

I had this giving a 6'4" guy a lift down from Peak district a while ago. Had no idea what was going on whole journey. Was very irritating. I guess my issue was solved when he got out. I don't often have passengers so not likely to bother me often. Hope someone comes up with a solution for you.

Hmmm. Can the pedal positions be adjusted by a dealer, or are they fixed ? Can you just sit slightly straighter, so move the back, but not the base ? I can't really help as I am a short arse....

Someone tall once had my car and the material has actually worn through on the back of the head rest from rubbing on the roll hoop. Haven't figured out how to fix it yet :x

The only thing I can think of is foam however it's near the top and will show through so people will see it.

Arghhhhhh I have had so much bad Iuck with this car!! The dealer was suppose to call me back about the car getting booked in for the suspension failure and this rattle and Tah dah... They haven't! Fucking BMW Eastern have really pissed
me off! From the Managing Director down to the servicing staff and I mean that literally!

Sorry, that's me ranting. I love you all really!

At 6'2-6'3 I am pushing the cars boundaries I know that

Drive in your slippers - should give you an inch or so less height :D

I'm the same height as you, but I am comfortable with the seat slightly forward. I noticed the passenger seat was bouncing on the rear bulkhead and moved it forward. It improved things a little but not cured. TBH, the minor rattles and squeaks are part of a convertibles character though. In my Golf any slight rattle would drive me nuts but in a car that cost far more new than the Golf did, I really don't mind too much. Maybe driving a Zed has chilled me out a little :)

Driving shoes???? If you can't afford £240 for the Prada ones, there are plenty of look alikes in the £35 range.

Or drive in your socks.

Take the seat out altogether?
:exitright:

A Tillett seat would give several inches over the stock seat. It also is just wrong to put one in a road going e89. Goes against what the car is.

lol, i feel your pain.

i had a passenger in mine over the weekend and i could hear the passenger seat squeaking as it was pushed back too far and rubbing up against something..... i found it very annoying

I always put my seat just half an inch from the back of the car. The cabin is a bit too short TBH, but at 6' it works for me. I'd suggest popping a patch of felt on the back of the seat with some easy to remove soft glue. Should stop the cracking noise the leather against plastic makes. If you look at the side of the seat near the tunnel, BMW have done just that on the seat belt fastener (on mine at least) to prevent it rubbing.

Swap it for an automatic, then biting point not an issue and neither is hill start assist!!!!!

My work colleague ALWAYS puts the seat back as far as it will go when he gets in my cars, purely out of habit I think, so when I got the Z4 I put the seat in the rearmost position I was happy with and when he got in I saw his hand go to pull the lever and told him to stop. Seems to have worked!
