In a bored moment this afternoon i got thinking about the difference in power between the Z4M and my first car... and being an engineer decided to graph it... suprised that its a pretty linear relationship
( i fudged it slightly by omitting the 2007 defender i replaced the Golf with)

is yours similar or more pronounced ..

what i want to know is on this basis what am i going to own circa 2017 with 400bhp

The data

Year bhp Model
1996 59 Ford Escort 1.3 LX
1997 54 Fiat Cinquecento Sporting :driving:
1999 73 Vauxhall Vectra Arctic 1.6
2001 135 Pug 306 XSI
2002 144 Mazda MX-5 1.8i
2004 150 Audi A4 1.8T
2005 200 Golf Gti Mk5 2.0 FSI

2010 236 BMW Z4 3.0
2012 340 BMW Z4M

2005 - 49 bhp - Mk3 Ford Fiesta 1.1
2006 - 115 bhp - Mk4 VW Golf GT TDI
2011 - 197 bhp - Audi A3 2.0T
2012 - 265 bhp - BMW Z4 3.0si Coupe

Reasonably straight line up the bhp graph for me there :driving:

Following that trend it looks like an M would carry the line on quite accurately

Mine is a little more erratic taking into account classics and runarounds.

2003 - 55 bhp - 71/ton - Nissan Micra 1.0
2007 - 148 bhp - 117/ton - E36 320i Saloon
2007 - 73 bhp - 78/ton - Mitsubishi Colt Mirage 1.1 (2005)
2008 - 137 bhp - 141/ton - 92 Scirocco 16v converted
2010 - 218 bhp - 145/ton -88 BMW E24 635Csi
2012 - 265 bhp - 186/ton - BMW Z4 3.0si Coupe
2012 - 113 bhp - 82/ton - BMW E46 316ti Compact (01)

No idea of the dates but

Astra Mk3 1.6 - 75
Nissan Primera - 100ish
BMW 325 - 170 I think
Toyota Corolla - not a lot
Golf 1.9 gttdi 130
Golf 2.0 gttdi 140
Lexus is220d 170
Saab 9-3 1.9tid 150 (Estate)
Subaru Impreza STI (06) 350ish
Saab 9-3 1.9tid 150 (Saloon)
BMW z4 3.0 231

No linear increase for me ... sort of hillocks

My progress from 17 to 37. I've only included my main drivers as some of the sheds I've owned as 2nd cars are too embarrassing to list. Smile'o'meter ratings included:

MG Metro Turbo (93bhp) :-|
Ford Escort 1.3 CL (60bhp) :(
Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 16V Sport (90bhp) :)
Honda Integra Type R (190bhp)
Honda Civic Type R (200bhp) :D
BMW Z4 3.0i SE (231bhp) :D

2000 - 54bhp seicento sporting, eventually tuned to around 75bhp
2006 - 131bhp fiat barchetta, tuned to 150+bhp
2011 - 265bhp 3.0si (dont think it needs power gains)
So the next level should be 510bhp ///M5

TapaTalking

2008 - fiat grande punto 1.2 - 70ish bhp
2009- bmw 116i - 115 bhp
2009- bmw z4 2.0 - 150 bhp
2012 - bmw Z4///M - 343 bhp

next up def needs more than 380 bhp...

If you are really bored, it'll be interesting to plot the weights and the power/weight ratios as well. Colour me intrigued anyway. I intend to plot mine once I get some quiet time. I'm pretty sure I'll have some outliers at both ends -- the zed and a couple American land yachts. Most everything else are Japanese appliances. One's an E3 though.

Updated my reply to include this info. I have to say that 100/ton is perfectly adequate for everyday commuting. Need to double it for fun though!

Never really got to know what was made under the hood - I had a cousin who was a rally driver, and his mechanics tweaked it a bit
Enough said it was able to get to almost 200km/h :driving:

He he i like that ....

God they were fun...

My Mate had a Yellow one, I had a black one still some fond memories of zipping through traffic with them..

and the seat belts were red ...

2009 - Vauxhall Corsa 1.3 SXI CDTi - 69 bhp
2012 - BMW Z4 3.0 SE - 231 bhp

I suspect my graph would be more of a vertical line :D

Again, too brain taxing to remember dates but;

Citroen Visa (0 bhp, it never started!)
Original Mini Clubman (42bhp)
Original Mini Studio 2 (last of) (42bhp)
Ford Fiesta 1.1 (55bhp)
Ford Escort Estate Ghia 1.6 (88bhp)
Renault Clio 1.2 (60 bhp)
Toyota Celica 1.8 (105bhp)
Fiat Stilo 1.9 Diesel (115 bhp)
BMW Z4 e85 3.0se (235bhp)
Ford Mondeo 2.0 (120 bhp)
BMW Z4 e89 sDrive35i (306bhp)

A slightly wobbly power curve for me mainly due to changes in lifestyle/economics.

98 Peugeot 205xs 89bhp
01 Vauxhall Calibra 136 bhp
05 Fiat tipo diesel 92 bhp
06 Fiat stilo arbath 168 bhp
06 BMW 323 168 bhp
08 Audi TT 225 bhp
12 Bmw z4 236 bhp  :driving:
