I've always thought the hardtop looked great on the Z4, long before the coupe was released. When I decided to replace my 2.5i with an M I thought long and hard about an M Roadster with extended leather, heated seats, and hardtop. In the end, I decided on the coupe because it's more individual (there are tons more roadsters), has one less part to go expensively wrong (I give a little sigh of relief every time I read about a top problem), and the hatchback gives you a bit more trunk space than the M Roadster.
 
To each his own - I never have liked the boat tail of the roadster and still don't. The coupe's lines for me seemed like the real reason why the shape of the tail was created in the first place and that's one of the main reasons I bought the car.

The sales numbers obviously say there are far more roadster owners than coupe owners but I happen to like it that way myself :yeah:
I have always taken pride on not being part of the herd.
 
Point well taken Alan, but vehicles with hard top roofs are more a part of the herd than ragtops and that is why I like the roadster. I have had many hardtops but few ragtops and I bet most owners are the same. But got to admit I like the coupe too. When I grow up maybe I will get one of both. :D

Ah yes but Z4s with the built in hard top are rare beastes and that is the part that caught my attention with the design to begin with.

After growing up in Phoenix with a father who loved roadsters and convertibles I am left with a lid that Dermatologists love to see walk into their office (KACHING$$$). More sun on my head/face is not something I either crave or need and all the sunscreen on the planet won't help me out as a redhead with freckles who has spent far more time out in the sun than was prudent. That's one of the reasons I like living up here in the NW grayshine.

I do understand the fun of a drop top but am not a good candidate for joining in with the celebration of the open air. It doesn't help the cause for me to see that a lot of track events are slamming the door on anything without a fixed lid and the add on roadster hard top doesn't qualify unless you have a full roll cage.

To be honest, even I'm not happy with the looks of the hardtop myself. From some angles, it looks good (rear, rear 3/4, side view). But from the front and front 3/4, the shape looks a bit odd and I would've done a few things differently if I was designing the hardtop. The M-coupe has grown on me a lot and I do think the lines flow better than a roadster with the softop up or with a hardtop. But the coupe hadn't been released when I bought my M-roadster. If it was available, I very well might've gone with the coupe instead.

BTW, here's my shamless plug. :D My hardtop's for sale; I'm located in Seattle. Local pick-up only though since I have no clue how to ship this thing.
 
Guys...looks like you all had a good time! My family issue is now over and can now make some Get Togethers on the weekends! Possibly June 7th...should we have one then???
