The new Mazda MX5

I'm not too keen. IMO aesthetically the front grille is too big and the headlights too small, the wheels on some models are too small and ground clearance is high. The back end is ok in an F-Type way but is very high. Also don't like the height and slope of the wings over the wheel arches. The interior looks quite nice though !

I was tempted by the new MX-5 for 2016 ..... a really nice package. At 6'-3", I'm just too big. The steering wheel rubbed my legs all the time. Also, the car was way under-powered. My heart was into getting another Z ...... so I opted for a pristine used Z4.

The Fiat 124 Spider which is heavily based on the new MX5 surely wins in the looks department IMHO.

Japanese reliability with Italian styling, this has to be a good combo (if you gloss over the Datsun Cherry /Alfa tie up a good few years ago).

PS, I'm not keen on the boot badge which looks like they just rested it there & the real lights are a bit marmite too, other than that I like it.

Now an Abarth version of that would get my attention.

I have seen two, one in red and one in a sort of wish-washy blue colour.

I'm still a little undecided. I like them from the side, the line across the wing/bonnet looks good but those round lights on the back seem a ltitle out of place.

I now see they're doing a limited edition 'recaro' model.

http://www.mazda.co.uk/cars/mazda-mx-5-sport-recaro/ which has some added bits. Not a fan of the wheels on this one though!

As for the Fiat, the rear lights look like a Mazza, the front lights are wrong on this one.

Just need to get the 124 and the MX-5 in a quiet room somewhere, light some candles, put the Barry White on and make some sweet love. A combination of these two would look good I feel. :D

 My first impressions were that they looked similar, I agree the front lights on the Fiat don't work

How can you be sure they don't work ? Are they switched on :D

I have always been amazed that Mazda never made one with more oomph.

A few years ago a mate bought one. It drove OK but the performance was in the same league as my old Triumph Spitfire 1500.

Personally I much prefer the lines of the Fiat. No contest for me, interior in tan leather looks gorgeous as well. Wasn't sure about the headlights from some of the car show photos but seeing it in outdoor shots they seem a bit softer and look a lot better to me. Might try to convince my Mum that she needs a new car.... :P
