the new cayman/boxster GT4

Can i get some recognition here for this post I made back in Novemeber

"Yes, he told me not to tell anyone :)

But I've got a big mouth. The salesman showed him the car on the system. He said its a homologation model as they want to compete in gt4. Supposedly a limited run and manual only. Book opens early next year but he's already left a deposit and took the GTS on a buy back deal while he waits."

Well I was sort of right.... right about the manual bit anyway.

I spoke to said friend this morning and he reckons he's going to pull out of the GT4. His main reason is down to what he expects values to do based on the fact it's not going to be a limited run. His line on it " I don't know for sure but it sounds like a standard model that anybody can order like the previous Cayman R. Long term residuals were good on those, but no premium and have settled about £25k under new price".

Yep, it's all to do with rarity....I'd have to know the production run before ordering the car. If the run was unlimited then I'd put my money into a decent 997 GT3 instead.

is this not a limited run???

i was under the impression it is? if your right that will absolutely devalue as per a normal porsche model, i was under the impression this was a limited run motorsport product. porsche sutton coldfield told me they have 7 allocations, thats it.

no mention of it being limited in EVO's coverage that I can see...

I'm sure you've spotted those links though ;)

As I understand it, it's not limited to a select number, but they won't make a huge amount of them. I guess the number will depend on demand, but I'm sure they won't have any sitting on forcourts with reductions!

all the rumours of a detuned gt3 engine were wrong then? its basically a more powerful , better aero GT, i like the use of the 911 engine but they REALLY should have let it have 400hp. BUT........ this is the only new car right now id want and I'm guessing it will be a total weapon, id want the seats, not fussed about the other options really. i can't help but feel alittle disappointed with its gt4 name and lack of extreme nature, i was hoping a GT3 version of the cayman basically with cage, etc.

However as its a 911 engine I'm guessing over 400hp is easily possible..... i love the GT3 type looks.... i think.... this could be the end of the z4m for me, the price is OK. I'm going to start compiling my for sale advert on pages
I think you would be exchanging a unique vehicle with supercar performance for a slower car with similar handling characteristics. It would carry the advantage of being a factory product with each component designed in sympathy for every other but I would be surprised if it offers an advantage over your ///M (except that it's a coupe :P ).
That it is not a limited production run is disappointing both wrt being 'special' and also it's potential as an investment in the long term.
Of course, if you do decide to sell up and Munich Legends want to sell your ///M as a low-mileage, OEM spec car then think of me - I'd love to buy your blower and BBK :D

Pretty much what my dad says and I'm starting to agree. I was expecting kinda like a mini gt3, but its still awesome in its own right. The dealer did peak my interest when he said they ARE doing another spyder....

I too had hopes for a mini GT3. Instead, this seems rather more tame. It is the eternal compromise with the Cayman that it shouldn't tread on the coat tails of its bigger brother. I would love to see what the engineers would create if given free rein, guided by the test drivers and restricted by neither marketing men nor accountants.

This just isn't the right or big enough step in actually car performance to make this move is it really. Really enjoyed the conversation in here btw... i can't lie however i think that cayman with 420hp ( which I'm guessing is easily achievable ) pccb, cage, carbon pack and so on, this things would be a dream to own for many yeas to come and i think of the current cars of today its a very special proposition, but its going to cost! I'm just trigger itchy , after 8 years ownership you get alittle like that, us car peeps are always looking for that "next" car and i think for MANY z4m owners this would be a natural progression maybe not so much for the price.

i hadn't seen these, I'm REALLY enjoying drinking in the details on the youtube channel!! :-) wow, i LOVE this car.... porsche should have given it its 400+ hp, can't believe they have stuck that engine in and detuned it so much, i wonder how easy it would be to tune back up?? or if its limited by hardware changes?

Let's be clear, I don't think the normal GT3 has ever been a limited run in the sense that they have stated production numbers at the start and not gone above them. This will be a limited run. They won't produce that many and they won't give dealers much allocation. This is a Porsche Motorsport project and the car has a GT tag. That is a very strong sub-brand they are looking after. How many people are going to buy a £75k Cayman that will be a very focused machine with only two seats? They don't sell many normal Caymans let alone this model.

The residuals will be rock-solid.

the cayman is lovely as is the boxter spyder with the hood down, the hood imo lets it down. It reminded me of the hamster trying to fit the hood on to either a ferrari or lambo he was testing, those silly thin bits look like something you would see on a campsite !. bet they are both stunning to drive tho, but loads of money. wish you luck with your sale beedub, forgot she only has 11k on her, and over 500bhp . absolutely unique. dont know how it will be seen at that figure though, i can see someone like ML asking that money for it but I cant see them Paying anything like that for it. Seems when you have modded something they want it standard, saying the mods or mileage dont make much difference, but then advertise it as one off special , never to be found again unique example. Always seems to be the dealer who gets the big earn from it and not the seller. ( I dont mean ML, but dealers in general), had it with my z3MR and a One off custom bike I had many moons ago. Hopefully you will find a well off private buyer who appreciates all your hard work and investment, without the time or knowledge to do it himself, ... Then you have a chance. :driving:

Not sure if this has been posted already but just seen it on facecrap

This is sparking some very interesting chat in here wow......

original govner, the 991 GT3 is definitely going UP in value. definitely, however i was led to believe from the piston heads P-car forum that the GT3 was and is definitely limited run.

Just going through the threads on PH and alot seem disappointed with the Hp figure in particular and also the weight.

No I think they'll make as many as they can sell but keep waiting lists long. The 991 will sell more than any other preceding model because it's PDK and that market wants PDK.

Pistonheads will always have its horsepower freaks. There are always faster cars than a GT3 - a GT2 or Turbo S in particular but it's not about straight line performance. It's about purity of the drive. It's about all the things we love about our M's but with even better handling, steering, damping and dare I say it engine noise too.

I could go and buy a used GTR tomorrow and it would be uber quick and I love that car for what it is. But, it doesn't satisfy what I want. So if people are disappointed with the performance they just don't get the car at all and why it's produced.

I watched the 20 min Evo video earlier on you tube, and Porsche said they may make a PDK version of this GT4.

Would be interesting to see final numbers. Maybe they would use that to decide if the GT3 deserves a manual. I guess the problem is that the GT3 needs to be as fast as possible on paper, as well as feel great, and a manual is always goin to be slower on paper.

Also the long gearing in the Cayman GTS/GT4 seems to be a disappointment. The

ok !! configuratior is LIVE!!

heres my desired spec! check out my spec , heres my build code PGA5P4M4 for desired spec, i went relatively light with the key performance bits and it came in @ 81k. The seats are over 2k. 81k for a cayman is way out of mine league, with a few bits this car is going to get dangerously close to super car money.

Yes I'm reading the Pistonheads threads. They make me smile. I love the GT3. It's my dream car. In any guise other than the 991. I wanted the Metzger and if I could choose any car this side of a Ferrari F12 it would be a 997.2 GT3 RS!! Back in the real world.....! I get the debate about GT3 v GT4 but I'm not sure it's entirely relevant. This car has been bought out to open up GT cars to a younger and less affluent buyer than the GT3.

Nobody has driven it yet and yet people are already slagging it off. The same people who always slag the Cayman off (perhaps because they have a 911). How about celebrating a new MANUAL GT car. That's only about £10k more than a GTS but has soooooo much extra kit in it.
