Oh dear it's moved onto ex gfs....
If we are getting into EX-girlfriends and partners, I shall have to look out some of my old glass lantern slides - well, I do go back quite a long way!
In 1966 I was twenty-one and singing with my band in Germany. Our first gig was in Braunschweig, and on the first night we were there, I met up with a lovely girl call Brigitte Weinkauf. We were booked at the club for a month and six of us were staying in a fairly small flat, so when, on the following night, she said that her parents were away for the Summer, and would I like to stay with her, I couldn't believe my luck. She had the use of her mother's VW Beetle and, at about two in the morning, when we'd finished playing, she drove to the house, which was well outside of town and a bit on the posh side.
I stayed with her for the whole month and when we moved on to Hanover, she came there at weekends. Unfortunately, we then got shunted up to Kiel and I wasn't able to see her for a few weeks, but did managed to visit when we had a weekend off. Sadly, we had to return to the UK for some bookings and didn't get back to Germany for a couple of months, and when we did, we were nowhere near Braunschweig and, although we corresponded for a while, I lost touch with her. I often wonder what I'd be doing now if I'd left the band and stayed in Germany, as we discussed together during my stay with her. She, like me, will be in her sixties now, and I doubt that we would recognise each other, but I will always remember that Summer romance in the 'swinging sixties'.
This all sounds a bit 'Simon Bates' doesn't it? I guess he'd be playing 'our song' now, and if so, it would be 'I put a spell on you', which Brigitte loved to hear us play.

Sorry to have gone on a bit, but when us old-timers get started...( pause to wipe away a salty tear)
