The Most Anal "Detailing" on Your Zed ?

So I understand that many here are compulsive when it comes to their Zeds.
I admit that I resemble that as well, but I'm retired and 64 so I have an excuse.

Some might recall that I recently undertook to freshen my calipers with paint and initiated a small discussion about colour options.
I would like to report that I have just finished that, opting for silver brushed on Duplicolor Kit, while leaving the calipers in place and masking off the rubber bits.
Of course I struggled with not replacing brake pads seeing as I was probably half way there anyway.

So now for the anal part.
Can you top this ?
So there I am - Head in wheel well, looking for stuff that might need attention.
Appears to be some road grime in there. Like that should be a surprise ?
I don't like that grime, plus I have lots of time while the caliper paint drys.
Out comes the bucket scrub brush, and after several wash cycles, combined with chemical cleaner sprays, well the grime is gone. The pits of the Zed are freshened like the day she was born.

Next up - Diagnose the source of this violation.
Damn those Brake Cooling Ducts that came with the Z4 M Bumper Project !
One duct was new with only the stock opening. The other was used and had been modified full tilt by having the 'flap' completely removed !
So with bits from the Ford Donor Bumper and some ingenuity, I crafted 'flap covers" to fill in those "Cooling Ducts to Nowhere".
After all the original bumper didn't have them so why should I need them now ?
A couple of plastic body rivets should make this mod easily reversible just in case I've offended the M High Performance Members.

It gets worse.
Caliper Paint still drying ..
All that clean fender plastic and some body panels, now exposed, clean but ...
Not properly protedted !!!
Out comes the Plastic / Rubber Cleaner / Conditioner that works magic on BMW Dashboard Bumps.
That should work on the wheel well plastic ? Maybe even a shine ?
Hey I've got a bottle of Turtle Spray and Wipe Wax too ...
It's supposed to work even on turtles ?
So there you have it.
Wheel wells spotless !
Worse
Conditioned AND Waxed !

Top That !

ps I know you can.
Be brave and admit to it.
No shade will be sent from here.

Well that detailing sounds very erm. . . . detailed
I wash and polish mine quite a bit, but am hardly what you would call a detailer - only just changed from a sponge to a Mitt due to Forum pressure

Ahhh, and I was thinking that the lines in your sig picture were the body work shapes, but at closer inspection I can see that they are deep groves from the sponge ....

I would think a certain Mr Essex from Essex could top that.

Probably something spectacularly mad like cleaning the treads of the tyres with the tears from a unicorn and polishing them by using the pubic hairs from an angel while the car was being cleaned in a cleanroom environment by pixies.

Best one I've ever seen was the nutter with the Vauxhall Astra on Barryboys or Pistonheads that went over the top on a brand new car. Crazy stuff like aerodynamically polished and emperors new clothes type polish from the only tree in the Amazon that could provide the wax.

Someone said pics ?

1. Brake Duct Flap
2. Bit of shiny wheel well
3. Silver Rotor. Spring clip is left unmolested
4 Chemicals responsible.

I take my wheels off everytime I clean the car!! clean all the callipers and All the wheel arches and re- black all of the wheel arches as well makes a massive difference to the overall look of the car

You guys know how to make me feel inadequate.

The results look great, but I am several days short in each week to get to such levels.

Not to worry RickRob.
I admit be being retired so time is never an issue.
I can't say the same about standing up from a squat. :( Damn football injuries
Us older members take inspiration from all the stuff you youngsters get up to.

Those water spots in the last pic would get my gall.

I'm anal like that, but not obsessive. I could let it go till next time. Well, if there's enough daylight, and I have beer, and the grand kids are not over.
Yea screw the grand kids, them water spots are coming off. :P

Tho I do tend to spend enormous amounts of time under the hood keeping it spotless, and all the other regions people normally don't look at, like the door jambs around and underneath, the boot lid, well, everywhere I can reach basically, with out removal, tho that has happened this spring. ( Front bumper *chough*) Needed to get them bugs out of the radiator fins.

Some impressive pictures here, but there is a world of difference between those Zeds which are fun, weekend, nice weather cars and those that have to earn their keep as daily drivers.

Mine gets washed every week, polished when time allows but that's about it.

I was gonna say this topic was a bit anal http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=80456&p=1184703#p1184703 especially when the car had only done 500 miles and had all been fair weather too, started cleaning out the vents and stuff but he seems to have deleted the pictures that went with it.

Typical took his ball and went home (and before anyone says it he probably didn't have any never mind one)

I still take a whole day to do my car and that's just outside. All seals, trims, under the bonnet, sills, wheels, wheel arches, exhaust pipes, glass. Maybe if the weathers half decent on Friday I could do it all again

Ha Ha Kap'nZ4
Good eyes there to pick out those water marks on those brake duct port covers I made.
Truth be told:
1. I had already been out for a run between my original post and taking the pics the next day. So I'll save those to remove another day.
2. The covers I made from a donor black Ford Bumper and the wheel well side of that was originally gray. I couldn't have that so I painted it after I installed it with black bumper paint. I precleaned it with alcohol and when I sprayed the paint the alcohol that was hiding under the plastic rivets flowed.

Very good eyes though.
I have no plans to refinish the covers. :)
