The moon is being supported by Jupiter

Cheers... Have already been looking. 8) Shame it's at the side of the house, I can't get my telescope on it.

I never had u down as an astrologonomer fred
But then, u do have an unnatural and undeniable obsession with whatever's aligned with uranus at any given time!

Look out now and you will see it, as long you don't have clouds :)

Just snapped a few quick pics. Modern cameras blow me away. These are hand help resting on our trampoline.

I love this ! Always been very interested in astronomy. We have had some very clear night skies recently, last night in particular. That photo of Jupiter and it's moons Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto is phenomenal for a hand held shot ! :o My favourite Jupiter fact is that its mass is 1 thousandth that of the Sun but it is also 2.5 times the mass of all the other planets in the Solar System combined ! Get your head round that ! :D

I love facts like this, it's hard to comprehend really, crazy...

The Sun is so large planet Earth would fit 1.3 million times inside it....that's a big ol' ball of heat is that...

Loving the fact sheet. I was as surprised as any one that a £200 camera, in auto mode, could capture that shot. As you can guess I posted up the one that worked. Lucky I'm good at holding my breath too.

Ok last one... This is the daddy....the biggest planet known is a red hyper giant called VY Canis Majoris, its circumference is 5.46 billion miles... :o ...it would take a passenger jet 1,100 years to fly round it once....I don't care what anybody says, that is as big as a big bag full of big things...

Big 'ol boy ain't he....

7 quadrillion Earths could fit inside. If earth was a golf ball it's height would be equivalent to Mount Everest, that's enough golf balls to cover the entire state of Texas 22 inches deep.

5.46 billion miles around. :o
Ooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh Ye, that's big. If my mental arithmetic is any good, that's about 30 light seconds.

Thanks so much for posting this up and to the perfect clear still weather tonight. My lad turned up, totally unplanned. We grabbed the telescope from the loft and have just spent a great couple of hours out on the patio, observing Jupiter and it's moons, Wow better than photos in some book any day. Quality lad time. Just priceless.

The 'Big Dog' - apt name. And since it's a red hyper giant, I'm surprised they don't call it Clifford
