The largest explosion in the UK

This story never ceases to amaze me,

I have to visit Fauld Mine in Staffordshire as part of my job and still find it facinating and sad for those that perished when 3,670 tons of explosives went up in 1944. Amazing that a reservoir containing 6 million gallons completely vanished and story of the cow :o

Great read, I think I'm right in saying the control explosion for the Manhattan Project was 1000 tons of TNT, having seen a video of that, looked like a nuke going off. Cant begin to imagine what it must of been like for the locals, oh and poor cow

Very interesting read... Never knew about this at all.

Cant imagine what it must have been like to inflate the cow.

As an FYI the manhatten project was mentioned in this, as the new mexico explosion - that was 22 tonn... Its insane to think about the force.

Thanks for posting this, a fascinating read and a story that I suspect not many people know about. I didn't.

Had no idea either! Cheers for posting.

The aerial view after the incident is staggering:
