The June 2011 Photo Competition - COMMENTS

wow jodale-
I'm impressed at the lack of sand around the tyres and arches and amazing reflection.
Great shot although there are some very impressive shots in this months contest.
Could be a tough choice this month

Thanks bigbensnr,
I was down on the beach taking photos and I saw the reflection pools so I went for it. I was sweating bullets as I very-very slowly rolled down on the beach. It all worked out and the light and the reflections were amazing. Thanks :)

Yep. Great shot. I was gunna try something similar but didn't have the nerve to take the car onto the sand and get it stuck. That'll take some beating (annoyingly) :)

Nice photo James_G - but your geography is crap. :P

That looks more like the road to Lochinver A827. :poke:

You're half right, it's the A837. However it is definitely the road to Lochinver although I was heading for Ullapool so that's what was in my mind when I wrote it. Anyways, full trip report coming shortly.

You are correct - my braincells are failing - it's an age thing.

Couple of good climbs in Suilven and Assynt - did you have time to attempt them?

Wow - We've only been open for entries less than a week and we already have so many great photo's this month. Last months Moon Light theme was so hard to pull off that we must have a lot of back log. It's great seeing a lot of the world in all your photo's and with a Zed in the photo - Well that's just cream on the top. Keep those photo's coming

How to feel (photographically) inadequate:
1. Post a picture in this months compo (not seeking attention  , see point 2)
2. Compare it to the pics posted by B-rex and iwatchlive

As already stated above, the standard is exceptional this month!

B-rex : That just looks epic. Always wanted to take a shot of my car like that...
iwatchlive: Really dramatic, looks almost like the edges of the bootlid/rear quarter/roofline are part of the Alps... stunning.

Thanx Dev, its a fine balance I guess, having a keen eye, a wee bit of intuition and then a fair chunk of luck thrown in - all in the hope you capture what you are seeing live, in my case of the stunning Mont Blanc Massif.

This image is far more stunning in its native format (5184X2642) but we have to stick with a resolution <1024 (except inkey$ :poke: ) which is fair enough- but it really doesn't do the image full justice or allow the viewer to garner the full detail available on the rock and ice formations behind. I took a lot of shots in my first long trip in the Zed to Switzerland and it was the first time I got to play with the new camera too. I am happy to have got that image though as after hanging around for a very long time in the hope the sky colour would match the deep sea blue of the zed itself, things dramatically changed about a minute later and there was a white out, as below

Yeah, okay I hold my hands up to that one! My resolutions do tend to be sporadic and I went with an iPhone Hipstamatic option this month. Really lovely shot from you this month btw.
You too Dev - loving the SE Massive representation. Lovely night shot

Cheers! It was a spur of the moment thing, I wish I'd had the tripod and more time, have wanted to take a shot from there for a while, will try again sometime soon as I'm sure it could be better! Need to learn how to edit photos as well, not happy with the numberplate....

Can always give you hand if you need it Dev. Used to be a Photoshop Zen master until I got paid to tell other people what to do :D On that shot you could try actually just deleting it completely - i.e. making all black so the eye sees the rear cluster as the main focus. Still think it looks good mate

Thought I'd have a quick go while sat in coffee shot waiting to go into work so first of all, hope you don't mind :!:

Filled plate area, reduced amount of red in shot (caused by street lamps) but left in red highlights to rear light still resonates. Cropped out upper street lamp so blue sky balances your lovely motor more. Then finally I slightly reduced the saturation so the night shot colour compensation your camera created looks more natural.
