The July 2012 Photo Competition - COMMENTS

@ dubsesd - Love the gritty yet polished, de-saturated feel of the exposure.

@ Mitch89 - Your photo looks almost as if it was torn out of a BMW Z4 brochure. I'm very impressed and would love to see the equipment / tools used in the shot!

I've had a go with my retro style pic on the Severn Bridge. Photoshopped! :)

Bit careless to stop your car on the bridge, run behind it and get a photo :)

My middle name is Forrest!
I'd let Mr M drive which facilitated this pic.

Thanks mate. Was shooting some new vehicles at a studio that recently opened and they wanted a sexy car that they could use for some promo stuff. My car fit the bill ;)

Look at Mitch89's pic, that's the sort of thing I'm talking about (no offence Mitch, it's a cracking pic but the likes of me has a cat in hells chance of recreating something like that!)

I'd love to get my hands on a studio like that! I remember using a small scale photo-studio setup once and I really shot everything that I could, ranging from soda bottles to people to first aid kits. Great shot!

True, without proper equipment and experience it will be next to impossible for an amateur to recreate a shot like this. But I personally like the variety of shots being submitted and I'm sure that anybody with a half-decent camera, some know-how and a dash of time will be able to capture an exposure that can be topped by few.

I'm waiting for the time and weather to shoot my car, hopefully I'll be to do that before august!

Hey Mitch, really impressed with the competition photo but think the photo in the studio, on this thread, looks really intersting and arresting and for that reason it would get my vote. Even with basic cameras and software I think we should be able to create something different and impressive. Then of course location can transform a shot from the mundane if the Z is positioned right, so lets not lose hope...I've not been able to do it yet but will keep trying! Anyone else have hundreds of shots of their cars?

Liking dubsesd's shot, looks great!

Don't think equipment matters so much, it's the composition of a shot that counts. Avoid straight edges, use two-thirds, etc - that makes a real difference. A basic bit of Photoshop knowledge can help but it won't make a crap shot into a good one.
