Well it makes sense to chip in my issues on this one thread too, and a thanks to Mr Nurburgring for the excellent advice so far.

Took mine apart today and looks like the teeth on the handle are well worn away, as attached photos. Looks like a replacement handle job? I'll check the above post regarding any wobble too, I assume its where the exterior handle slots into where the arrow is pointed, below the gears?

The slot in the circle is worn, the pin will move sideways so the teeth move away from each other making them wear even quicker.
Yours look well worn mate!
If you look into the slot only half is worn, if you slide the pin further into the handle so it slides into the slot on the non worn bit it will be ok just glue a spacer into the other end to stop the pin from sliding back into the worn bit. Hope that makes sense.

Reckon the handle will be okay if I just put a specer on the pin? Or is it worth replacing it anyway and adding a spacer to the replacement

I looking at the pic of the handle I would say you need a new one.
The carrier part will be ok so long as you slide the pin onto the good bit in the slot.

One followup question, in regards the spacer - what sort of material should I be looking at for it? The car lives outside so I've had to put the handle and everything back in until I get a replacement, would be good to be prepped ASAP.

Really appreciate the help so far though, really useful! Thank you

You would require something metal about 3-4 mm and glued in with some epoxy.
You want as much contact at the worn end on the good bit that’s left so file the pin flat on that end.

Small nut or something similar will do as a spacer.

You can always buy a new one but when I was fixing mine I wanted to get to the cause of the issue, having repaired mine successfully with only replacing the handle because the teeth worn off it’s still working perfect 2 years on.

File this flat so you get as much contact on what plastic is left where this located.

Top man, much appreciated! Will get the bits ordered, fairly sure I have some small M3 nuts in the toolbox with no other use

Managed to get myself a full handle unit including bracket for £40 on ebay out of a car thats done 40k so hopefully should be good, at least better than my 120k old parts! Will still likely do the spacer trick mind you, prevention better than cure etc.

Well, all sorted this weekend just gone. The handle came from abroad so took a while to arrive, but the driver side door now opens easily just like the passenger side.

I've been hunting for ages now and still haven't located a drivers handle in the right colour. Tricky to find.

Bowser134 (Ross) sorted out both handles yesterday. So nice to be able to open the passenger side again and the drivers side is a fair bit easier too. So I'd recommend if anyone else is having the issue. Looks like a common problem.
