The GP

Good race again from Silverstone, very entertaining, some good overtakes etc. The results not confirmed as Rosberg might get a naughty boy slap for radio msg's, that'll be interesting. Personally I don't think they should give Merc a penalty as the radio was to stop a gearbox failure and not to help the driving but they're wanting to really clamp down on radio so maybe they'll slap them as they'll say it's tough, if your box fails then it fails. Alonso and Vettel getting a bit ragged and a bit beyond the limits, good stuff.

I think the first message was to reset the issue but then they advised NR to avoid using 7th gear - which was the gear that he was having problems deselecting - so they were advising him how to drive the car when, according to the regs, they should have left him to figure the work-around for himself.

IMO, if they don't penalise him it makes a mockery of the new radio restrictions and nobody will obey them in future

+1
Lewis controlled the race well and nice to see him go over to the fans and have a quick surf :)

These regulations that cover radio messaging appear to be ridiculous and I have some sympathy (not normal) for Rosberg if he gets penalised.
On another note I thought Silverstone looked stunning today, what a crowd!

Wel that's the grey area that needs clarity is'nt it, when does a msg to stop a problem become a driving instruction, the msg to NR helped to save the gearbox which kept him on track and still racing, it was'nt like the msg's Smedley used to give Massa, use x gear on x corner, take a wide run on x corner, they're clear driving instructions. But I take your point and don't disagree as such, it's as I said a grey area that needs clearing IMO.

Lewis owes Charlie Whiting a bottle of something nice for giving him that win.
Let them race FFS!

.....oh and that virtual safety car bull$hit, get a proper car out there, bunch them all up and let em go again.

I don't get the restrictions, when LH was using a faulty map surely telling him the map was faulty is not a driving tip? But they let him figure it out.
Telling a driver they can go faster round a certain corner or making up time in a sector is more like coaching.
But surely the instructions for NR are the same as what LH should have been told. Nb. I'm assuming being stuck in 7th is not a failing car, it's just a slow one...

Yep, I can understand starts behind the safety car if there's torrential rain but today wasn't bad at all - it seems that they're becoming a bit too risk-averse

He'd have won any way there's no one else on track, in a fast enough car, capable of beating him. :fuelfire:

The only problem with that is a 'proper' safety car tends to be out for a minimum of 3 or 4 laps (depending on the circuit), a virtual safety car can be in effect for less than 1 lap if necessary

Have you seen Lewis' starts this year?

Have you seen Nico floundering around on a wet race track.

Looks like Rosberg's been given a 10s penalty so drops to 3rd...

Only 1 point in it now...

As soon as it rained it was always going to be a Lewis win. Rosberg cannot handle a wet or damp track.

Or Lewis, if he's behind him! Lewis just did enough to keep ahead and turned down his engine but was never threatened!

Was a good race, agree that the SC should have come in earlier to make a more interesting race though. As for the radio coms, I think the rule is daft but while it is place it has to be followed and am pleased to see Mercedes penalised.
