Work have booked me into this hotel for one night in April. Anyone near there know if its a dump? Is there somewhere nearby to go for a pint without getting mugged etc? all information greatly received. cheers in advance

Firstly no 't' in Lichfield.

Yes - the George is bit tired. Situated in a pedestrianised zone it's a traditional Best Western frequented by old folks...... There are not a lot of other places unless oyu get out of town. Holiday Inn Express is where I'd stay

You won't getted mugged in Lichfield - it's a docile small tourist town where not a lot happens. Loads of pubs and restaurants right on the street of your hotel.

Tell me the night you're around and I'll show you a few places as I live in a nearby village.

So where are you working?

Thanks, Lichfield without the T. Ill remember that. I was offered the holiday inn express and thought it might be on some dual carriageway so opted for the old fashioned sounding pub type accommodation. Im there on the 19th of April, working at HMP Swinfen Hall. Didnt mean to dis your home town by the way :)

As noted you'll be right next door to Swinfen Hall, but expect eye watering prices.
Correct the Express is on the junction of the A5 and a main traffic island. Sat on a small estate with Esporta (my local gym) & Frankie and Bennie's on it. Cheap contemporary and close to where you work.

George is fine. Parking is not as it's around the back in a public park and I'd not leave my car there. Check if the hotel has a safer area.

Amazingly there are very few hotels in Lichfiled as it's a day tourist town. For better you have to head towards Sutton Coldfield.

Should be around for the 19th if you want to catch up.

... and since you're so close, i'd be tempted to drop by at Rydale Sutton (if it's still called that). It's just 10 mins from the Holiday Inn.
:)

Been on google maps have we?

You're right - it's just about 3 miles South of there and I live between the two. Small dealership compared with some but real convenient for me.

Why don't you just stop here:

you can walk to work from there....

Dont think so...... my boss would collapse!

I'm using a hire car so not bothered about the parking. Looks like its the George Hotel. We could have a Z4 Forum Quiz night or a Pie and Pea Supper.

I used to live over that way. Rydale Sutton was 'my local'. :)

friend got married at Swinfen Hall. Food's poor for those rates! :(

Is the Hollybush pub still that way? - or has it closed down?

Agree re Swinfen - I ate there a couple of times and it was too expensive for the quality. Great location for weddings, etc.

Holly Bush is still there, but despite being only a mile away I can't recall going in during the last 5 years :(
Shenstone village has 4 pubs, so no need to venture even that far off :)

Glad to hear you're coming to stay with us on 19th April, The George is a great place to stay and we cater for all ages, not just "old folks"!! Our cosy bar stocks a great range of real ales, so maybe you'd like a drink at The George before you hit the pubs of Lichfield? We look forward to welcoming you on the 19th, please let me know if you need to know anything in the meantime. Mark Santy, General Manager, The George Hotel."

Do you have a Zed Mark or was it a google search of the hotel name that led you to us?
