And he was missing the thumb and index finger on his right hand following a prop bomb explosion early in his career, this was disguised by wearing gloves.

I never knew he had missing fingers

I had to do a little looking up to find out if there was any trick filming etc but it was all done at that height with no safety aids. He must have had an incredible sense of balance.
