"The gas pressure spring of the bonnet needs to be checked."

On my last e89 these were flagged up & changed by the dealership before I picked up the car.

I'm on the fence as to whether they are really necessary to be changed after 5 years - but it's the BMW spec - take it however you want.

They have a EOL date on them for a reason - I just don't know what that is.

As it's part of the individual added "pedestrian bonnet safety" option, it's a security feature, that will be checked by the German TÜV.

KI answer:
"These pedestrian protectors are designed to ensure safety by lifting the car's bonnet in the event of a collision, providing a cushioning effect for pedestrians."

And this lifting option has to be supported by well working gas springs, which typically will get weaker over the years.

According to @B21, this won't be checked at MOT.
