The Future Of The BMW M Brand

Interesting about the manual there to stay... But the xdrive going to the m5/ m6 was inevitable really.

I was having a chat with a friend of mine last night on this.... will this inevitably make the E92 more desirable in the future too? being the last NA M; maybe worth picking up a minter now before they creep up in price?

I have spoke about this before when I had mine and I liked the fact it was a manual and the last N/A engine but I think they have been made in too big numbers and the heavy fuel costs will count against it though, but agree it will be interesting to see how it pans out in the future.

Excellent  the DCT does suit the engine far better than the manual as it makes the best of the power band, let us know how you get on. :)

I don't really mind if an Ms engine is turbocharged or not as long as they find some way to have it rev out to 8000RPM and sound like all hell's breaking loose when you near the red-line... They've managed to make the S55 rev out to 7600, here's hoping they push that up for upcoming powerplants...

You might say, and some already have, that you can always buy an older N/A M car then, well in the UK perhaps but out here where low emissions mean a much lower road license it's not economically feasible to buy an older car. My Z4M would now cost almost 1500 euro a year for license after the latest revisions in the law but thankfully the new regime only applies for newly registered cars.

My point is that unfortunately turbos, automatics etc is the way of the future, but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't make them as evocative as they were. Come on BMW I still believe in you. Despite the horrible X5 and X6 M's......

Slightly off topic... But i did enjoy it.. Not loved it though.

I think it maybe have been one of your comments... But the noise was great but not amazing. At low revs the car felt much bigger and heavier than i expected.

The DCT was fantastic though lightning fast, and the raw power was proper wow when you plant your foot down it really launches!

I have a budget of around 25-30k so looking at a cayman 987 gen 2 aswell.

The Cayman would be the direction I would go in now, the V8 M3 is a funny car in that it does feel heavy and cumbersome at slow speeds but does hide its weight well and come alive if you take it by the scruff of the neck, I was disappointed with the noise as all you can hear is induction noise which is nice but I like a little from the exhaust too.

I have driven the DCT a few times and it helps eliminate the engine`s relatively low torque problem a fair bit when compared to the manual but the engine is still at its best at 6k revs plus and its hard to enjoy what its best at without disregarding all speed limits.

Good find.

Turbo Engines

Manual Gearbox to stay, for a while.

Rear wheel drive to stay.

No small sports car in the line up. Just Taxi's & Barges

Audi Marketeer taking over at ///M. oh deer, I hope he's not there to boost brand image and sales, buy I expect he is. :tumbleweed:

I worry a little about this as well...I don't mind Audi but they don't always hit the spot with all their cars whereas most M cars are really special
