Well after a very very long weekend with a dremel and a couple of sets of headlights, I have finally joined the Angel Eyes club!! and managed to finish de-gingering my car while I was at it.

I used two sets and went the full CJ method more or less, by saving one lens and cutting the other my lights fit together like OEM. However I attached both Angel Eye's to the front cover not to the headlight reflectors, just to make sure I dont overheat them, as going back in would require use of the dremel again :(

anyways time for the pics...

To fit the angel eyes, you need to cut the lenses off by using a dremel and cutting between the lens and black backing, takes a good 1/2 hour for each light. Then you need to clean out all the dust - which took me a good few hours with brushes/ micro fibre clothes etc.

Next is fitting the angel eyes in place and glueing them in, then you need to mount the angel eye ballast inside the headlight and wire it into the wires inside the headlight, I used a soldering iron to ensure permanent connection. FYI the grey wire is the positive wire, and the brown wire is the negative wire. Once that is done test it and then test again to make sure it's working. Then put everything back together with a strong heatproof waterproof adhesive.

Not exactly simple, and consumed a whole weekend for me lol, see this link for some detailed instructions http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2953 and good luck if you attempt it

Oh did I mention the angel eye club is much more exclusive then the infamous coupe club? :poke:

I think you should form an Exclusive Angel Eyes Coupe Club, are you the only member?

Well I have a roadster - so I think I may have cj, pawn sacrifice and gookah on my team as a minimum 8)

Did you not see the soft top in my above pics :P

Also thanks for the kind comments everybody

And a big thanks to Pawnsacrifice for his tips and wisdom along the way, and to CJ for the initial inspiration! well inspiration to spend more money at least lol

Nice work Tom

It looks like your sidelight bulb is still in there... Under the halogen bulb. How did you refit it without it coming on? If I put a bulb in there, it would light up when the angel eyes do...

Also you forgot to remove the amber bits :poke:

The sidelights arent wired up, i cut them and used them to feed the angel eyes.

Re. orange bits, im not made of money - they have to stay for now!

oh yer, that makes sense now, I should probably do that. I just stripped a bit of the side light wire and soldered into them, so if I put a bulb in the side light, it will still light up.

Personally I would like to have the AE on the switched power supply, so they come on whenever I turn the car on, instead of with the light switch, as I prefer to leave the lights on auto. Not sure if this is possible, as I would need to find a switched power supply to tap into, and I don't believe there is one inside the headlights. unless someone could enlighten me?

Re: Orange bits - I paid $300 for the 2 donor lights and $80 for the Angel Eyes - so 380AUD = 250GBP all in. Not exactly a bank breaker, but it did take me a good few months of ebay browsing to find them :tumbleweed:

Wow very nice work Levi! At this rate I see a similar mod in my future! Will have to start trolling ebay!

Like you say it would be better if the AEs were on whenever the ignition was on. I wonder if there are any other circuits around that can be tapped into?

thanks mate! check out ebay.de - thats where I found the best prices. just took a few pics so you can all see the end result a bit better, and a pic of my car before to compare!

This is how she looked when i first bought it
