The end of new car discounts?

As nice as new car discounts are, they are usually only available on pre built cars so you might end up with a spec you didn't really want. Plus the more cars that are made the more they depreciate come 3/4 years when the market is saturated in them.

I think when people come to sell on or part ex they forget about this and look at the original list price not what they got it for due to the amount made and they aren't happy but that's life.

My experience in the last year has been that if you are even half decent at haggling you will get as good a discount on a factory order as you will get on a pre reg or stock car. The added bonus is that if you are using finance then the factory order car nearly always, without exception have a lower APR (4.9% on orders compared to 10% on pre reg with BMW).

I was speaking to our resident tame BMW sales manager on another forum just this morning and he is offering 18% off list on a M135i. That's a combination of BMW support and dealer contribution. He also mentioned that BMW are chucking £18k support at the M6 at the moment and they can offer further dealer support on top of this. It means that on finance an M6 costs less than an M5 or an M3.

TBH i'll be very happy if the big discounts end as it's seriously hurting the residual value of my car. It's dropped roughly 30% of it's value in 1 year  But like you say, thankfully i didn't pay anything like the list price for it

With the exception of the exotics (Ferraris, porkers etc) you can get at least 10% off list off main dealer prices from the likes of BMW AUDI Mercedes etc if you have no trade in & know where to go & it's not a new launch model - these are main dealer supplied, but ordered outside of the delivery dealership...

Not true, they were offering big discounts on factory ordered too (for private buyers, not business buyers) and as for saturating the market with Z4's.....that ain't gonna happen!
