The End of an Era

I'm gutted. My beloved Baur has gone, it's being used as a donor car to help another Baur live on. Mine served me faithfully and flawlessly for nearly three years until the cam belt snapped and several of the valves bent.

I traumatised for months over the decision, but finally accepted that it really was throwing good money after bad to fix her: she needed a full bare-metal respray and a ton of welding, new suspension and Recaros.

I nearly had a fit when I added up all the invoices, though: I'd already spent FIVE GRAND on her over the years. So when a couple of well-dodgy looking norf Lahndahn blokes offered me 'alf a bag for the car, I couldn't really say no.

And so she's gone, but all my memories are happy ones.

Half a bag of sand.

Nothing ... I'm still in mourning and it would be unseemly to eye up another so soon... :(

ok... here goes...

Spokey said the guy offered half a bag... half a bag of sand...

in rhyming slang, "bag of sand" = "a grand" (£1000)

So spokey was offered half a grand (£500) for his car...

Why these southerners insist on using this odd form of communication is beyond me!... well, enough of this, I'm off for a Dame Edna (Dame Edna Everidge = beverage!... get it?)

Actually, I remember quite a few of them, even the shortened ones: whistle, eg., or Norman hunter and especially; bristles. 8)
