So, the tyre guy rolls up at 8.30 this morning, a nice fella called Shahid. On board his van were 4 Good Year Eagle Fi Assymetirc 2s destined for my car. A quick check over of: correct size, making sure they're definitely not runflats, and date of manufacture etc (fronts 2014 rears 2015) all as expected - so far all good.
Car jacked up, wheels on one side removed and off they went into his van. I came inside to make a brew then took his out to him and got out of his way, Sat in the living room where I could see him trying to get the run-flats off the rims, they were tight by the looks! The tyre machine was giving up under the strain so he ended up getting the tyre irons out, it looked a right old job - as did getting the new tyres to go onto the rims. One side finshed he let the car down off the pneumatic jack, but it only went down so far then got stuck so we had to get one of my trolley jacks out to raise the car back up and get his jack out. T'other side he just used my jacks!
All fitted, paid the bill and went to see him off - and his van wouldn't start! Battery sounded as flat as a fluke, tried jumping it off the Z but it wasn't having any so he rang the office who said they'd send someone down to sort it. We went into the house and I made a brew, and as it was getting on lunchtime, Shahid asked if I'd mind if he ate his lunch. No probs with that so he dug out a lovely looking curry and rice thing from his bag - it smelled gorgeous. He must have seen me drooling because he asked if Id like some but I couldn't nick the guy's dinner. The rescue fella arrived so we got the jump leads onto his battery and tried to start the sick van - still no joy so we're stood there debating what to do. Gave it one more try before sending for more reinforcements and the bugger started!
It was an interesting morning, turns out he only started working for them a few weeks ago and it looks like they gave him the worst van on the fleet. Nice fella though and the tyres look great - no damage to them whatsoever so he did well. I'll go give them a blast and scrub them up tomorrow - it's horrible weather here today.
