The E89 out and about - reaction

A girl I have been seeing started to talk about my Z4 tonight. We were driving back to hers and she was following me. Anyways, I was playing Snopp Dogg - Ain't nothing but a G thing out the sound system, just relatively turned up and I noticed a couple of young guys digging my tunes so I bounced my hands and they gave me the thumbs up waving past. This isn't the first time that this happens, I have had a group of tourists dance round my car, a guy pretend to air guitar to ACDC Back in Black in front of my car.

The girl said do you realise how many people stare at your car when you drive? I said no! She said that she notices people look at the car, look at me and then look at her. I have seen the odd person mouth nice car but never thought I had got that much of a reaction. I think it's nice our Z4s get so much attention.

Anyone else got any E89 Z4 stories?

I don't want to include the older Zeds after they called us new Zeds a flop :x
 
Maybe your girlfriend is really good looking and they are thinkim how on earth did he get her :o. Haha just messing.

Z4 does get a bit of attention because you dont see too many on the road but lets be honest its no lamborghini or Ferrari.

Nice choice in music btw :thumbsup:
 
Yes, happens a lot, I don't really notice as I'm driving and too busy watching where I'm going, but my wife often comments on how people stare at our zed.
 
I agree the zed does seem to attract a lot of attention - both good and bad.

Whenever I'm travelling slowly (90% of the time in London!) I often notice people having a good old look! There were a couple of American girls said "hey nice car" the other day while I was enjoying a little roof down cruise. what surprised me was I was drivig through a part of town where cars far more showy than the zed are common place. Even had a couple of kids taking pictures of it while I was sat in traffic (surely the acid test of a nice car is whether a 12 year old lad wants a picture of it!)

On the other hand there seem to be a lot of jealous types about - have never had so much aggression from other road users as when I'm in my zed. I often share driving with my girlfriend (who has a distinctly non- flashy Clio) and don't get any trouble when in that - only the zed. Does anyone else find this?
 
Best is when you come up behind someone and they swerve towards the white line or the gutter and you just know its because they're checking the car out.

I always get kids saying 'awesome car'.

My favourite was the line of bikers who :thumbsup: me as I drove past them.
 
I have had both positive comments and negative ones although I think the negative ones are more about it be a convertable than it being a Z4 and being honest till I owned one I had similar thoughts , sometimes you dont realise what you are missing till you try it
 
i do get comments about it all the time. even in the work car park where random strangers say its nice or i catch them having a good look around it from my office window.... its to be expected if you have a car that is not so common and also nice to look at

what i find funny is that very young kids who have no conception of what a nice car should be, like it..... for example my niece is 4 and she loves my car even though there are loads of other brightly coloured average cars to choose from in the street. so something must be visually appealing for them to pick out the z from all the others.... maybe something that subliminally attracts most of us to nice cars
 
While driving through South London top down a cab driver started a conversation with my mate sitting in my passenger seat about how he loved the car. I then got a load of piss from said mate saying that the car only attracts cabbies not blondes...
 
In my 3 old shape zds had a good few head turns. the reaction from other drivers was very relaxed, letting me out of junctions not trying it on sort of tipping of cap with respect.

I did park in mogos and walking back my wife and I was following a couple that had parked next to the zd and the old bat said, what is that, that stupid car to her husband, we stopped behind them while she simply spat all sorts about the car, giving us time to think of an appropriate reply, Its called a spots car but looking at your rust bucket you will never have the enjoyment of experiencing.

my 10 plate gray was red bull to all sorts, had major issues of cutting up pulling in front and getting out of the car to have a fight, that was well bad some woman undertook me then just pulled into my lane with no indication, her partner did not like me papping the horn, showed his fists with kids in the back and then got out, came towards the car I thought better move out before he kicks the car so moved to a lane that was moving, and he ran after me, I did think about getting out, I was returning from karate so had my kit on wonder if he would have still continued the gimp.

Like envy said kids always seem to notice, and roof down in my 10 palate gray had few shout nice car as I passed

Now my red new one, I get shed loads of looks, even people shouting and cars papping and other z4 owners waving, must admit, hay it my opinion, the red is way the best colour compared to gray. I have yet to have any one cut me up the 10 plate I had so many issues in the 1st month of the 10 plate the wife wanted me to sell it, very interesting.

Had that on Sunday driving back from Uni in Holborn. That was after they were looking around for which car was making all the noise.

Think it depends where you live / are.

Drove to Hull to see some friends last year and I was like a superstar! Kids, adults, everyone interested. Round my way, people my might occasionally turn a head, but in general most could not give a toss given the number of nice cars and other exotica that cruise by.

Best thing is..... I like to look at it, inside and out. And my head turns as I go past a reflective window front. That's what makes me happy. She is beautiful. And obviously I appreciate the occasional glance or kind words.

+1 for me - i get kids saying nice car, people following it turning their heads as I pass from time to time but the most important thing for me is I smile every time I see it/catch a reflection myself.
 
Mine turns a lot of heads guessing because people haven't really seen one before. Also since having the CSLs it gets lots more attention. Got pulled over by a policeman about this time last year, thought I was in trouble he checked my details then spent about 20 mins talking about the car said have a nice day and drove off lol.
 
I think the E89's have a certain feline grace about the way they look from the front. A little bit like the old E type but in a different way. Most people like cats, big or small, so that's why most people like the look of them. Also I think BMW got the lines just right from the front & sides. Not quite so sure from the rear, sometimes it looks like it's got a big arse with nice curves! Nothing wrong with some might say!

Oh please J, you're more grown up than that :roll:

As for the comment from Keith... As a commercial success for BMW the e89 has fallen well short of the mark in terms of sales figures. That's fact. However that does not mean it is not a lovely car - the economy is not very well, and they appear to have slightly misjudged the market, but the number of owners on here who love their e89s demonstrates that, with us at least, it is a success.

I get nice comments and looks, especially now the sun is out and the roof is down all the time - even in my clapped out 'old' Z :P ; I have also had a couple of negative comments. But. I couldn't care less. I love walking back to it in the car park and seeing it crouched there, waiting to be driven. It's great hearing my son's mates tell him how cool they think the car is. And I love large shop windows next to traffic jams. I am sure I will feel the same in my ///M when I get it. Or in my Valencia Orange e89 when I feel like I need more of a tourer :poke: :P :D

Zs are ace - I really, really hope I can always have one :thumbsup:
 
People do look at the zed ( I can only speak from E85 experience though ), but I am not sure this is anymore than other cars which are not that common. Same used to happen in the MR2 MK3, again relatively few on the roads. I must admit it is seeing a zed in the Sainsbury's carpark that made me want one. Husband had mentioned it as a possibility, but at that point I thought I wanted a TT. Seeing it made my change my mind.
As for people's reactions. It is one of two. Friend I drove to training day couple of weeks ago, said people seemed to be very courteous in terms of letting me out of sideroads, first on one way tracks, etc., and this is true. However, I seem to upset audi drivers, slk and 4x4 drivers quite a lot.
