Since it has been top down weather the last couple of days, I noticed a whistle from the engine during accelleration and sometimes during steady throttle..
I have heard of this before so opened the hood (bonnet) and checked the rubber intake pipe. Low and behold, the small section of rubber piping had a crack/tear in it.
This is a known problem on the M54 engine. A lot of talk has been made on the E46Forum.
Removed the rubber intake pipe that runs from the air box (MAF) and throttle body. Took about eight minutes.

Number five.
Then, for a temporary repair until I get a new part, I used Performix Liquid Tape (liquid rubber) on the effected area.
Put on one coat and let it dry for about 20 min. then put another coat one and let it dry.
I put on a total of about three thick coats. After about an hour of dry time, put it back on the car.
Works like a charm... as a temp repair...
The new part is about $25.00. I will order it this weekend.
