The dreaded roof headaches

Hi folks
Thanks to all your welcome messages much appreciated
So I brought a 2006 z4 E85 which was standing for a while battery replaced I pressume by previous owner . The roof came down ok when I first got it but wouldnt return so I did the manual lift luckily before our climate changed . So having looked at all the right ups the relocation of the pump was necessary to check the pump /motor . Managed to relocate and dry the motor out of the terrible design location .
I renewed the motor which I believe may have stopped it rising , I believe it was the original motor and not sure if I lost 2 out of the 3 pins but only one was left , I did it ok , tipped the pump back upright , topped the fluid , put it in manual mode lifted roof up and down to purge whilst monitoring the fluid level . Full when Down and 3/4 when up , popled cable realise back but roof not moving at all .
So took the plastic cover of the manual cable , wd40 on the brass nipple which I believed was solid (so how did it work when I first got it?) now nipple going in then returning ok , still nothing . Ignition on windows drop top motor opens hatches then boot pump works continously with red flashing ight . Pump doesn't stop until you take your finger off , nothing coming on upside switch but motor sounds louder.
Conclusions open latch then tried to push roof down to test hydraulic pressure theres non , so pushed roof Down tried to pull back up with correct resistance can pull back up without manual cord pull . I did wire the pump directly to the battery hoping not to damage relays etc but no good
Took it to my mechanic and he cleared lots of previous codes ,the car was in transport mode which he cleared so ac and heater , screen all work now . Roof the same , I haven't disconnected the battery to maybe clear a fault on roof but did take screen shots of his reader which he advised me to,do for reference.
I'm not a quitter but it's beyondmy skills chaps , any advice will be much appreciated I'm located between hull and beverley east yorkshire

Not a codes issue.
Check the fluid is full to the brim.
Check all the drive pins are properly in place.
Try swapping the wires over in case it’s spinning the wrong way.
Or it could be the pump has failed internally.

Many/most E85s have had the pump relocated in the boot it’s not expensive and is well documented, whoever’s does it will know what else needs fixing.

Thanks for the help I did double check the brass pin with the spring attached lined up with one of the plastic cut out white holes , I did test the old motor yesterday and that works , maybe try again to swap it over , I haven't finnished the cut out of the left hinge and completing the hinge shelf rebuild just made sure the shelf microswitch was slotted in to avoid orange light sequence. , the only thing missing was the 2 small pins , I was scared to reverse the wires incase it pops fuses or relays ? So did you replace the missing pins? If not then there’s your problem.
Swap the wires over. Won’t hurt anything to try it

No pal just the one out of 3 in there , the guy I got the new pump from eBay geek part said it wouldn't mater about the other 2 pins , can it be that ?
and ill try it later on the wire swap

I had one which did the same as yours. I found one of the pins laying on the floor. Refitted it and it worked. No idea why or how, but got to be worth fixing that first.
If Stuart (bigwinn) doesn't have spare pins I may have some here.

[ref]Z4 Russ[/ref], I replied to your PM. Got some pins here. Send me your address and I'll get them on their way to you.

[ref]Z4 Russ[/ref], I thought of another potential issue!
The white plastic rotor sits on a D-section spindle. there is a small piece of metal shim that slots in to hold it securely.
if that is not fitted then the metal spindle wears the plastic and it doesn't rotate.
I'll send you a small kit of possible bits.
Should be there by middle of next week.

If your weather is anything like it is here you're not going to be needing that roof motor for a while anyway!

Hi Guys a big thankyou goes to Martin @enuff_zed
With a bag of goodies and especially the 3 pins needed I managed to get the roof operational.
All be it suffering from erectile disfunction. Mid life z4 crisis, fast to come down no power to put up LOL.
So M told me to swap the lines over and wires and not to bad with a prod down , but more importantly up like a super stud on heat .
Will pop it all back together, tomorrow and onto the next fix haha .
What a gent ,
and thanks to bigwinn for the kind gesture of which I'm sure I'll be taking you up on the offer .
All the best boys and I hope girls
