The dreaded cracked 19" alloy

Joy, what I originally thought was a puncture has turned out to be the bane of every 3 series with 19" alloys. Namely the crack caused by cack alloy used in conjuction with unwielding rubber.

Proper gutted as a call with the local dealer indicated that I'd need to spend £92 to get them to "assess" it prior to the case being presented to BMW UK.

My 1st call had the repair quoted at £40

I just wondered if anyone knows of any reputable Alloy repair companies in the Birmingham area?

many thanks,

T1b

Try for a goodwill claim from BMW for a new wheel, if it's the design I'm thinking of then it's no longer in production as it keeps cracking, if they don't do them anymore you may be able to obtain a full new set?

I really wouldn't repair a cracked wheel ...............
it requires some serious heat treatment by someone who knows what they are doing, and by the time they are finished, Id guess the price of a new wheel wouldn't seem so bad.

anyway - like the man said, Id hit BMW first .................

Go at them with the Watchdog stuff etc telling them wheels not fit for purpose due to 19" wheels cracking due to sustained driving on British roads, don't accept the "pothole damage" thing tell them their 19" alloys are not acceptable or fit for our roads.

Very irritating for you. Been looking at E92s to replace the Z4 but unfortunately all 335is that I find are plagued with these wheels. Nobody every left the spec sheet alone and took the 18s. I've given up looking now, but if I did buy one with these wheels I'd be immediately swapping them for 18s and flogging the originals.

I'm looking at just getting some 18's for it with Winter Tyres in the next few weeks but it is deeply annoying.

I'll also look at replacing the 19's next year once the summer tyres need to go back on as the tyres are pretty new.
