The disa nightmare

Hi all,

What a nightmare! Everyone’s seems different to mine!

My car is a 2.5si 2006 and the disa is buggered.

Anyone point me in the right direction? I’ve ordered the one on the right, and it’s tiny compared to the broken one!

Thanks for any help!

Phil

Hi, there’s 2 different disa valves, looks like you’ve ordered the wrong one https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=BU32-EUR-08-2006-E85-BMW-Z4_25si&diagId=11_3756

Brilliant, thank you Rob! Honestly I could not find anything you’ve helped a lot!

One question though, as I have not come across the ‘rear’ disa, is this a common issue or is it usually the ‘front’ one?
It doesn’t look too easy to get to the rear without breaking seals etc, or is worth the check?

Thanks for the help

The si models don’t seem to suffer from worn disa valves as much as the earlier m54 engines so not read much about regular failures etc.
Should be ok with the seals as they’re only reusable o rings (although they can wear and cause air leaks)

Cheers Rob, really appreciate that!

If the actuator is working but the valve itself is the problem you can get a replacement valve and pin from these guys

https://www.i6automotive.co.uk/bmw-disa-valve-intake-adjuster-unit-aluminium-repair-kit-3-0-only.html

They do others if this is not your engine

What where the symptoms? IIRC you shouldn't be able to move the valve by hand on the N engines, unlike the M54. Your right about access to the rear DISA though, I think you have to take the inlet manifold off to get to it unless you are a real contortionist.
