The dealer killed my car :(

Just had oil service + brake fluid done.

Pick up car, it's idling really badly going up and down between 800 and 1400 rpm, there's a bunch of big clunking noises, then the engine mgt light comes on along with a bunch of other lights.

Error codes are to do with the adaptive throttle apparently..... clunking noises?... having had the car a year/12k miles and never had any sort of engine light or problem it seems like a bit of a coincidence that it happens to go wrong the day it's in the dealer.

Any thoughts appreciated, i shall be giving them the benefit of the doubt. Could an error with the adaptive throttle cause such noises?

Have realised that i really am very attached to this car.
 
I would be taking it back to them mate, it was fine before the service then as soon as it has come back it's running rough, I would take it back. :?
 
This all happened before i got out of the car park, so yes I walked straight back in and i'm back in the loan car.

To be fair they have been very good (in the sense that they gave me lots of assurances that they would sort it out etc).

If anyone else has had a problem with the adaptive throttle i would be interested to hear about whether or not horrible clunking noises were present.

I did not.... however they did clear the error codes and it ran ok for a bit at idle afterwards. Should i be ringing them first thing before they take it out for a test run?

At least you never got out of the car park so they can't dispute who caused the fault. I'd leave it for them to resolve now and I would hope they don't need any tips. Fingers crossed you get it sorted swiftly!

horror of horrors - they clearly made little effort the road-test post service then?? Though I very much doubt they bother proper road tests these days with all the computer tech - if you noticed the problem in the car park then SURELY whoever parked it after oil change should have been able to flag a problem!! :thumbsdown:
 
Gosh I'd faint :o maybe some muppet in the garage gave it a bit too much of a good run? Do you guys write down you lileage before you leave it with the stealers?

Knocking sound seems scary. let us know what went wrong with it. Best of luck.
 
I always take photos of the mileage and the exterior of the car when i drop it off.

The car seems fine now - the explanation given seemed plausible; the throttle potentiometer was removed to access the fuel filter, and this for some reason caused the adaptive throttle to lose all it's settings. The idling and clunking was caused by the self-test/setup cycles.

What did they do to fix it? Just reset the adaptive throttle or was it not reinstalled properly.
 
Yes. It was attributed to the end-cycle of the throttle set up thingy. It's running nicely.

I'm enjoying the Conti Contact Sport 3s i had put on the front.
