The house goes on MLS listing on Friday, moving to the Island (Vancouver Island) this summer, finally I will be able to drive a decent car all year  :driving:  :driving:

The weather where I am looking is much like the UK, cloudy , a bit wet , some sunny periods.... good job I trained as a kid with my wellies and a souwester

i know nothing about canada but good luck with the move and hope it all works out for you

Have had a couple of winter holidays in Banff... always wanted to revisit in the summer, but have not made it yet...you can get a flurry of snow there... :)
Good luck with the move...

We don;t usually get a lot of snow, little bits all the time that go away with the Chinook winds. This year is different, I have a solid two feet with 3 foot drifts in the back yard and it won't be going anywhere until at least April.

Take it you usually drive a snow mobile in winter? Sounds fun ;)

Nope, no sleds here. (snowmobiles are called "sleds" here) just a little Landy and a couple of P cars, one without snow tires so it's living under a blanket in the garage, with a trickle charger on it.

The East side of Vancouver Island has very little snow, no super cold periods and is quite laid back . Lots of Salmon fishing and Old people
BTW, it was -26 on my back deck at noon today, just a little more incentive to get out of here :)

Hmmm, sold the house. I was in the middle of ripping a virtually new S4 Audi through a mini Autocross course on a flooded then frozen, then snowed on parking lot. My phone starts going crazy in my pocket... "I'll call you back in a minute" as I floor it onto the icy course.... murdered some cones, had a blast in an Audi factory car (not mine getting thrashed all day) and sold my house, what a great day. :D :D

One showing at noon the first day (yesterday), then a repeat showing two hours later with ALL the family in attendance. Then negotiations started at 8:30 pm with a phone call..... deal done at 10pm. Broker coming over this AM with papers to sign. Busy day ! Had to cancel another showing for today....

Phew, glad that's over with (well it's 99% over, still a home inspection to let them do )
Now I have to find a decent place for us to live on the Island..

My neighbourhood is the fastest selling and most desireable in town, plenty of parks, pathways, schools , mountain views (I can see about 75miles of of the Rockies from my upstairs TV room) and I was the only listing in that pricepoint, not a starter , not the next one up, and not an estate over a million so a desirable house.

my realtor called two weeks ago and suggested we list right away, and push the price up a bit to see what the market would bear ....it worked.. :)

Update, the house sold in 8 hours. Saturday morning the listing was complete (the pics actually showed up on the website), noon was a showing , 4pm a second showing and negotiations started at 8pm. Superfast, even for here.

Offered on a house in Qualicum, they had been on market 6 months with no nibbles, they started on about not having found anywhere and could we hold the offer for a week. NO! that's not the way it works.

Found an amazing house in the Nanoose area, an architectural beauty, we both loved it until my sister in law said " Where's the garage?"
Unbelievable !! Both the realtor and myself had missed the rather significant fact that there was no garage.....the front had a wall that looked like a garage with small , high windows in it, in line with the driveway. My mind said it was a garage, but I was mistaken.......

Eventually found a really nice upgraded house on a normal street in French Creek, across the street from Morningstar Golf course. Take possession May 16th. Wifey doesn't come out until the end of the year due to work issues....

Lots of room in the driveway for visiting Zeds if anyone's in the area or passing through.

So how much did the estate agent (or do you call them realtors like 'mercans) make in 8 hours?

I loved Vancouver, i'd love to live their.

$17,800 which is split with the buyers agent approx 50/50.

(3.5% of the first 100k plus 1.5% of the remainder goes to the buyers agent)

French Creek is in between Qualicum Beach and Parksville on the east coast of Vancouver Island.
They get much less rain than Vancouver :D and houses are reasonably priced as opposed to Vancouver where a shed costs 3/4 of a million.

Well Done mcbee
Outta the Wild West ...
And soon settled on Vancouver Island !!!
Swap your Stetson for a Tilley Hat
Leave your belt buckle and Cowboy Boots behind.
Keep the Chaps cause you just never know with those west coasters.
Hopefully you find someone around your age to play with.
Say Hi to Grandpa and Grandma ...
Lot's of them out there and they won't remember if you are related or not.

Cheers on your next adventure.

Seattle, the only place you can stand on a street corner and see 9 Starbucks outlets...at the same time without moving anything but your head. :D

I like the seafood place down by the wharf in Seattle.. can't remember the name of it :? Expensive and very good

LMAO at starbucks, I was at an intersection in New York city once and there was a starbucks on all four corners, thought damn these are some coffee drinking fools LMAO

No walker yet ...
Congrats on your move.
I lived in Calgary back in '82.
Back then just about half of my University Rez had located out there.
Enjoyed the city and mountains, but you could keep the crap winter weather.

Vancouver and Vancouver Island attract pensioners for a good reason.
Old folks are wise !
Probably one of the best places on earth to live.
Enjoy

thanks Bumpy, yep , Alberta's a great place to work and make a living. I don't work so I no longer need to be there and freeze for 5 months every year.

I have two Barbour coats, a pair of wellys and numerous umbrellas, I shall enjoy the rising damp...
