The cost of not running a 3.0 Z4

My Skoda Fabia Tdi has been pulling a bit to the left, so I took it to a specialist garage in Taunton for diagnosis and repair. This lot: http://performancedriven.co.uk/ - They were recommended on one of the Skoda forums.

Car dropped off last night, by 9:30:am they'd phoned with the 'bad' news.

Front tyres worn very unevenly, probably due to under-inflation at some point.
One track rod end seized and needing replacement.
Tracking and four-wheel alignment required
They also mentioned a couple of blown bulbs and a split wiper blade.

So they sorted all of that. A new track rod thingy, two tyres, fitted and balanced, tracking and alignment sorted, other bits done and ready on time.

Total cost? £201.00 including VAT. You absolutely cannot fault that, and the car drives so much better.

:D that's awesome. I need to get a DD quick.
Is yours the 1.9? I've been looking at skoda/vw diesels as my old polo gave me many miles of hassle free motoring.

This month mine has had inspection 2, 2nr pilot super sports, a new brake calliper and replacement brake duct. Bye bye £1,325. Granted its good to go for many miles now, but if it was road tax time too, I'd be devastated!

Yes, the 1.9Tdi.

I'm on my second following flood damage to the first. When the first died I considered many other cars, but couldn't find anything that I thought would be better for the money.

I've covered well over 100k miles between the two models, and I think that the track rod has been the only actual repair I've ever needed. Of course I've had to replace things that wear out, but that's only ever been brakes and tyres. Ever a full set of discs and pads all round was well under £200.00 and a huge service with a cambelt came in at very fair money.

I did look at a newer Skoda model when I bought my Zed, but I didn't and a petrol version and apparently the newer common-rail engines are far more money to fix if they go wrong.

christ - i'm so close to a DD too for this reason. probably a fiat500/mini or something, but slightly larger would be more realistic and actually useful.

Duno why, recently these have really grown on me:

though this probably wont save me any money on running costs.. :D

We've also got a little Aygo as another DD, and whilst it only costs £20 to tax, the other running costs are almost no different. Tyres in fact cost more.
