The coman door problem

As in not opening :headbang:
So it's been fine until i had the bumpers painted baked in an oven after this i've been unable to open the drivers door from the outside,
Ive spent a few hours reading through old threads and something to do with parking in the heat can cause the cable stretch this was just one of many threads i've read this is what i think the oven may have caused it to happen.

So i've ordered a new cable which i should have next week.
My question is has anyone actually changed this cable themselves?
Ive read you special tools and more options than you can shake a stick at, Mostly from people it seems that have not actually done the job themselves.

I also phoned a indy today who said it could be anyone of 4 different reasons why it wont open from the outside.
Anyone had the door handle off or changed the cable themselves?

Hi captain

I had the same problem. I added some packers to try and tighten the cable as per I thread I found but that made it worse  then I bought a new cable and changed it over. A bit of a fiddly job but nothing to difficult and no special tools needed but it's still the same so I just find that if I lift the handle towards the back, near the lock it gives it that extra stretch and helps it open a bit easier.

Ive tried that and pushing the door in with my knee which worked for a couple of days.
Another post i read said the problem was the cable was stretched and frayed, The bit i didn't like was it said eventually once the cable snaps it renders the inside door handle useless also which means you can't open the door at all.
If thats true i want to get it sorted before this happens.
