The clock is ticking

My new Z4 arrives in early June (fingers crossed) in Portimao Blue. After a few years with my current G29 the plan is for this one to be my retirement car until I stop driving. Got the tech pack and comfort pack as extras but should I go for the BMW protect? Anyone any comments? Should I go with the BMW extra or look at maybe a ceramic coater?

I would look at ceramic coating, they will use the same person that cleans your cars your car and puts all the swirl marks into it. :x

My 10 year old Alpine White E89 has a "treated with BMW Protect X" sticker on the windscreen. I presume it was done from new and the paint is still absolutely flawless after all this time. It really shines with no swirl marks at all. I have four very bright LED floodlights in my garage so any imperfections would show.
In the 28 months of ownership, my car has never been waxed, ceramic coated, machine polished; only cleaned (very regularly) with cheap car shampoo and towel dried.
Make of that what you will.....

My supplying dealer got an external detailing company to ceramic coat mine rather than BMW protect as we all agreed it was a better product

Get a local detailer to do it, someone with a good rep.
This is what I am doing. Picking the car up from the dealership tomorrow without them touching the paintwork, not even cleaning it, and it goes to the detailers on Tuesday for Gyeon ceramic coating as well as coatings on the wheels, brake calipers, glass and hood.

Not sure whether you will go with gyeon accredited only ceramic coating or the consumer grade coating. If it's the consumer grade coating applied by pro-detailer (which is no worse than the accredited only coating), I would recommand their Pure Evo instead of Mohs Evo or Syncro Evo on z4. I had Mohs on my z and pure on my G31. Performance are the same between two coating but the Pure looks better to my eye.

To be honest the detailer I use is top drawer. He does a lot of high end stuff including Chris Harris' cars.

Echo what is being said here.

Ceramic by an external expert. I notice you are Shropshire based, this guy is the bees -

But if this is a long term keeper, you may want to look at PPFing at least the front.

Completely off topic, but your avatar is interesting to me as I used to work on Sitting Ducks back in the early 2000's. Even stayed at Michael Bedard's place once on a work trip to LA. Brought back some good memories.

My hobby is to provide cars with ceramic coatings, after polishing and all other preparations I have already done many cars. Of course my own cars are also in a coating. If I were you I would put the car in a ceramic coating.
I used to use Nanolex S3id but put my Z4 in the Gyeon Mohs Evo last year and I like it very much. Keep in mind that a car that is in the coating also needs maintenance on the paint.

Now the most important part of this whole thread is this comment. What could be better than a trip out in the Z4? An episode of Sitting Ducks with Aldo........... of course
