The car that keeps on giving

I've just found a feature I didn't even realise I had!

There's some sort of hill-start assist on my Coupe. After releasing the foot brake it holds on a hill for a moment to allow you to get on the accelerator without using the handbrake. I love finding things like this on cars.

In my old Z3, it took me a few weeks to realise the headlight knob also rotated to dim the interior lights.

I guess this comes with not ticking the option box yourself!

On this side of the pond the "Hill Hold" feature because standard with the 2006 models and beyond...

Yup, standard on facelift models along with a few other features to do with the DTC system I believe..? I love it, great feature!

great, but on the BMW a bit dangerous in my mind as it gives up after 3 seconds or so. With a VW, it works until you move off (logic to me) whilst in the BMW, you start rolling after 3 seconds which could leave you unprepared ...

I see your logic pvr, but I guess it means that if you are going to be stationary for more than a few seconds then it encourages u to use the handbrake; its designed to make an easy hill start rather than a handbrake alternative?

Thats my view, test mine once in a while and thought it wasnt working earlier in the week, and wondered how long it hadnt been working for. But pulled over later and tried twice and it was fine, just think I hadnt applied the foot brake firm enough, but as said before it's not something I use.

That is what BMW has done indeed. Just that this half way house is not really of any use to me, whilst the full hill assist is a nice feature on VW.

If you lived in a 850+ years old city with 7 hills you'd really appreciate the hill hold feature :D

I actually enjoy the fact that it only lasts 3 seconds, since I often prefer to just let the car "drop" by itself than put reverse when parking the car (I know, I'm lazy).

It doesnt matter to me. I tend to hold the car with clutch and gas if need be for short time. I knew it existed when I went through the features list when I bought mine.

I like that feature also. Only trouble I have is when I drive the missus car that doesn't have it!! :P

I'm always rolling back slightly when driving the swift sport. It is a great feature, if you read up on the DSC+ some of the things it does is pretty impressive.
