The bone temple

So with 28yrs later The bone temple out this month i thought id share a couple of pics of the day I had on set.

The guy in the workshop unit next to mine does film wi-fi, he got the new 28yrs job and I went up to North Yorkshire for a day just for the experience with him. It’s a huge operation even though there are no buildings etc, in this shoot, just the temple and some filming by a river. 5 fields rented out at approx £5k per field per day for 6 weeks is a fair chunk for the farmer..! Big budget here. They have catering trucks running 24hrs a day as there was some night filming, absolutely excellent food on offer at all times, you could pig out non stop if you wished.

We went inside the temple itself with the ring of fire ready to be lit with liquid propane tanks, the temple and surrounding stakes are painted fibreglass and they are constantly touching bits up between takes.

I didn’t see Ralph Finnes unfortunately as they were filming other parts that day, but a great day nonetheless, and fascinating to see behind the scenes.

I could only sneak a couple of pics on my phone as taking is strictly forbidden, I had be careful especially near the temple as I could have got Kriss in a lot of bother so only got these two and some of the logistics in the fields.

After filming Kriss asked if I could make a few ‘Trophies’ for Danny Boyle, Ralph Finnes, and the senior crew so I got some old railway track, cut it into slabs, soda blasted, laqured them and put gold plates on with the 28yrs lettering.

Great experience even though this type of film isn’t my taste really.

When I lived in the 'home counties' (the first 42 years of my life) I used to often frequent a pub in Hambleden (near Henley) called The Stag and Huntsman.
We went there one night in early 1996 and they were filming '101 Dalmations' (the live action film). It was Winter and we had some snow earlier in the week which had melted. So the producers had covered the whole village in fake snow for continuity.
The pub was still open but was full of cables trailing across the floors and huge lights all over the place. H&S would have prevented that these days!

The whole village had massive floodlights all around it so they could film in the dark. It looked awesome coming down the hill into the village.

The night in question they were filming just one short scene with a bearded terrier in the lane outside the pub. I found it funny that they had a perfect model of the dog to get positioning, then at the last minute got the live dog in for the 'take'.

Me being a nosey bastard, I was asking too many questions apparently and got politely asked to 'feck off'.

You were probably telling them they weren't doing it as you would....;)

Living in the west end of Glasgow, came home after a 12 hour shift to a film crew filming outside my street including a cameraman high up on a crane. Was informed I couldn’t enter my street, they were told to f**k off and I promptly drove in hearing an exasperated "cut!" as I did so.
Some episodes of Taggart were filmed in my flat shortly before I bought it.

We turned up at Clearwell caves (Forest of Dean) a few years ago (probably more than I care to remember actually) and found that Dr Who was filming. We were able to go in to see it (they weren’t filming - it was lunch) and then we watched as David Tennant and a bunch of aliens queued up at the catering van!

But the way does anyone have experience of leasing out classic cars to the film industry. I would be worried of the car coming back mullered.

I know someone who does it. He buys all sorts of cheap old 1980s crap (like Maestros etc), makes them look really period and hires them out as and when. He has probably the worst 'classic car' collection in the world but makes good money out of them.
Ironically he has built a huge, expensive, building to house them all in!!

When I stayed in Canada, I was just south of Vancouver in a place called Steveston, Vancouver has become a mini Hollywood, lots of tv shows and films made there, Steveston use to pop up a lot in the X Files. At the end of the Main Street was a compound and it was filled with dummy police cars, taxis and other cars/vehicles, which were towed and positioned in the streets when filming.

I really enjoyed the film, except for the to be continued ending, as always Ralph Fiennes was superb in the bit he played, would love to have seen them building the bone temple. 28 Days Later is one of my favourite films, at the time it was completely ground breaking and it is absolutely not a Zombie film, though I do like the genre, The Walking Dead was fantastic for the first few years.

Went to see this last week, enjoyed it much more than the first 28 years later film. Thought about your trophy’s in the train scene 👍🏻
