The Best Car Color? Let the Fight Begin...

I have 2006 Alpine White M-Roadster with Imola Red Interior. First it is a rare color combination, second I think it is stunning.

Sorry about the long delay in getting an answer. I just now read your post.. :headbang:

That was the USS Finback SSN-670, . Can't tell you the year 90's ish.

I was on the USS Phoenix SSN-702, Finback and retired off the USS Oklahoma City SSN-723.. 24 years total... I have actually been onboard the Astute..

670 was a 637 class (most fun I ever had on one boat, really gave Ivan a case of indigestion.....)
702 and 723 were 688 class's...
 
Back on TOPIC! I'd like to say Deep Green Metallic, of course cause that is what I drive... but I'd really have to say that I love love love the Alpine White. And I'd love to say that I love the roadster, cause that's what I drive... but when it comes to looks I must admit that the Coupe is very sexy in white. The roadster is definately a better car though :P

Some of you know that at the end of the year, I plan on giving my wife's Zed back to her, and buy myself one of my own. Not trading in, she just loves the car....

I want an general purpose race car... One for everyday driving, one to take to the track and one just to look cool in.... :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:
My wife says get another Roadster, because she & I love driving with the top down.
But, in this liability lawed country, you cannot take a convertible to the track. At least to my home track of VIR....
So I want a Coupe.
I don't want to start a coupe-roadster war, but I think the coupe looks better than the roadster... We can start a different thread for that discussion.

I keep going back an forth between practicality and my heart. Practicality says get a Z4 3.0Si Coupe'. For the better gas mileage.
My heart says Z4MC...... :evil:

I really don't worry about maintenance costs. If you want a zero maintenance cost car, buy a Honda. Besides, unless BMW absolutely has to do the maintenance, I will do it myself. I have the ability.

I am NOT knocking Si owners.........far from it...

I have been looking. Once a week or so I troll the web pages, so I can gauge the prices, of MY Z4MC...

I usually keep a car for more than four years, if I like it, hence the original question: What's the best color???

This car will be my daily driver. For just about everything.... My truck, at 16MPG is just too expensive now to drive everyday, but too useful to get rid of...so I drive the Zed.

I DO NOT WANT BLACK. I have one and it is a pain in the arse to keep up. I love doing it, but it is a pain.... But it looks SOOOO good when clean....

My first choice is Imola Red. I really love that color, but it is sooooo hard to find...
My second choice is White. I never really liked a white car but I so love the Zed in white. SixSpeeds ride is just a hard-on on wheels..... :heat:
My third choice is blue. I am hit or miss on the blue.
I wish I could get a Grey but I have NEVER seen one for sale in that color (in the last six months).
My least favorite color on the Zed is Silver. I am not sure why but it is.

So I asked that question for reason. Not just to start a discussion..

If it's any help, here are a few ramblings about interlagos blue.

Longevity and fade resistance - difficult to say because the car is only about 18 months old and is always garaged when not in use. So far it seems to be holding up well and is still a nice deep colour. But this varies depending upon the light conditions and the viewing angle.

Hiding imperfections - hmmm, pretty poor really. After black it's probably the worst colour to keep clean. I washed it last weekend and after one 25 mile drive on bone-dry roads, the patina of dust was very noticeable. When said dust is on the paintwork the little scratches that result from the even the lightest of accidental touches are noticeable. I have one or two small stonechips and these too are noticeable because they reveal a lighter undercoat(?). I've always followed a good washing technique, but it's very hard to avoid swirl marks and they show up very clearly with this colour. All in all, a bit of a bugger.

Fixing imperfections - fortunately I've not had to fix any major dents or scratches (yet), and have not yet seen to the stonechips, so not sure how easy it would be to get a good match. But I have a feeling it would be a bit tricky.

Shine - I've given mine a couple of coats of Collinite 476 and, when the car is clean, it has a nice deep shine. I'm sure there are other products that would bring out even more shine but I like the Collinite for its durability and relatively low-maintenance.

I do really like the interlagos blue, but if I had the choice I would either go for grey or white. I think the Z4 looks fantasitc in white and my beater, which is white, is easier to keep clean and doesn't show up the minor blemishes as much. I think the grey would be the best colour for all of your criteria.

Hope you enjoy the M Coupe when you get it. I never cease to be amazed at how much enjoyment I get from owning and driving one.
 
Shipkiller, can't fault your thinking on colours. Coupes look great in white and imola red. I like the grey as well. The coupe also looks better with alternative wheels such as CSLs. Good luck with the search :thumbsup:
 
Silver was my choice but that was for looks i think it really shows the Z4 styling the best i do like black but the suage line is lost and the upkeep of black would be a nightmare.

Silver was my choice on my last car and found if you look after it the car will look great for many years and i never had trouble with matching the paint but i did use a very good body shop.

As said above

Silver hides chips better

Hides scratches and small dings better

Swirl marks harder to see

Looks stunning at night if well kept

Resale supposed to be easier not a colour that goes out of fashion

However if you do not keep Silver polished and Waxed it will fade and get a flat look plenty around my area like that
 
Biased obviously....... but stratus " with ext champagne nappa Never mind the interior but the shade of stratus is a good compromise between silver and some of the darker greys and is relatively easy to keep clean, and trust me I am fussy
 
OK, so no black (love mine!!!!!!) and we didn't get merlot did we?

Interlagos blue is a good in between--dark enough to look fabulous when detailed, but not so dark that every little grain of dust shows.

My humble input on this is this:

Silver looks clean even when dirty.
However Silver also makes least impression when really cleaned up, darker colours give more back for being cleaned and waxed etc.

To that end, my opinion is that a dark silver (Sterling Grey in the Z4's case) as it hides dirt while still looking great when its been treated to a polish.
 
Unbiased opinion - Alpine White.

Not too bad to keep clean (keep it covered)

Nose chips do show up black :x

On sunny days, sun glasses are a must - you'll burn your retinas if you stare too long!

Fading - not an issue...

White = BMW racing colors
 
Black IMHO. Best looking to me, but also a real PITA to keep top level.
Blue would be second choice, but i have a hard time to choose the correct blue variation. I love the Monaco blue, but i also like the interlagos one.
 
Black is a great colour, although for the Z4 i think it hides many of the Z4 features such as panel lines, swathes etc...
