Kind of relative is it not. All M cars had the inline six until the 93-96 M8 & 98-03 M5. I heard a wail from the Bimmer crowd saying they have ruined the M series with these big heavy engines that will ruin the handling. Or that they were just shoveling a big engine under the bonnet like the Americans. Now most folk love the M3 V8, And M5 V10. The very engines that were going to ruin BMW"s M cars

We are creatures of habit and hate change. I don't miss the 427 chevy big block that i had in my 1973 Nova. That huge engine produced only 47 HP more than the M Roadster six. Yet at that time everyone thought the world was ending because chevy stopped making that engine and thought that we would never see that much power again. It's all relative.

That there are M cars with V8, V10 never bothered me and some of them are really great. I really love the e39 M5! Even the turbocharged 1M and M5 are cars I would like to own... But a M diesel is one bridge to far and something that is really not my taste :thumbsdown:
