The banner challenge!

I am planning on marketing the forum a little more in the next few months and there are a few things that we will need in order to make it easier.

The first thing we need are some site banners. Looking at the photo competition as well as some of your sigs it is quite clear that a lot of you are far better at photography and photo manipulation than I am, hence I am asking for some help.

We require banners in a variety of sizes, but in the first instance the following sizes would be a good start:

234 x 60 (pixels)
468 x 60
125 x 125

If any of you would be able to knock together some banners using pics from the site (either your own or with permission of the pic taker) that would be great.

The only stipulation really is that the site url is on there somewhere and that the BMW logo is not used (apparently BMW get funny about it!)

Cheers guys... can't wait to see what you come up with. :D

Nice one Rick... good work

... they can be as fancy as you like, but preferably not animated.

Maybe it's too simple, but how about just resizing down the existing banner from the top of the forum? I always prefer the clean understated look myself.

I agree understated is sometimes good, but having seen the talent on these forums I thought I'd see what people could come up with. No reason why we cant have a whole selection of banners... making the forum famous as well as individuals zed's :D

Thanks, peeps!

C'mon guys, I thought this challenge would be embraced like the photo comp is, but so far only Mr Hunter has stepped up to the plate.

I like that one too Ship, I just figured we'd get a library of these to get splashed all over the interweb :D

Just use mine, boss. Really.

I'd come up with a few more, but I'm knee deep in work this week/end. Maybe after the weekend, I should have some more ideas. I just don't have too many nice pics I could use from my own camera. :(

I like yours, and we will use them... still no excuse for the others being so lazy though :poke:

;)

:P
Like Rick, I am pretty busy at the moment, but I am sure that a few submissions will trickle in over the next few weeks.

Just a point...
If you want flexability you need some background banners;
Then the other images, cars of the month etc.... can overlay.

My daughter designed this banner for a Jeep club I used to chair. Given a brief I'm sure she'd run up something.

Not for one moment do I think this style is right. Here she had to incorporate a sponsor, show it was UK based, avoid any particular Jeep photo or model due to member conflict.

Yep, you need a brief really.

Some kind of ethos and story behind what the forum/car is all about.

Even some words to help find the right kind of pictures and so on... perhaps a tag line to go on the image?

Even purpose shot imagery?

I will have a go at a few for fun and stick them up. I'll use random images from the gallery, and we will worry about image rights if they are actually any good :P

I know this has been bumped after over 7 months, but here's my quick entry using styling cues from the forum banner above...

A bit stark, just moving away from that rather dull type face colouring and positioning (imho)

If you can get the forum name looking like a logo in itself, you are doing pretty well, so perhaps a logo design might be cool? (I'll have a go at a new logo too, just for fun)

Black fading works well with the black soft top on the Z4 (despite other colours being used, and it works to enhance the text/logo for the forum)
The orange Z4 text is nice because it complements the colour of the tail lights evident here.
The deep strong saturated colour of this image is nice and strong, making it memorable.

Also, I just like the Z4 rump generally, and pre-facelift tail lights. Totally distinctive! (despite the new Megane Coupe thing having nicked the Z4 bootlid top look a little!)

Wow guys, those are really good! I have been meaing to have a go at this myself but have just been too busy...

I would agree about the logo, it does need some attention I think, it's been in it's current form since day 1, so change would be welcome.

Thanks again, and keep em coming!

Yeah, you could use the badge as the Z$ part of the name. Of course, there's the design of the T-shirts we all had at Homecoming... (personally , I like the one with the coupe roofline, 8) )

I like the Z clearly seen in the concept art image someone posted recently (the 'did you get one of these with your Z4' thread or whatever it was)

If you could get that shape out and into a logo somehow, and integrate it with the 4 clearly visible in the side of the car too, that might be nice.

I did have a go but I quickly lost my temper with Photoshop :)

We have just got a lovely new graphics tablet at work though, so one lunch time when I'm busy I'll do some concept logo/forum name graphics... I think integrating the name and logo into one could work really nicely. Sometimes writing things out in plain text isn't so great, but lots of places do it and it sticks and works.

Ie, Apple computers is just an apple outline, Nike is just a swish... we should aim high and get a memorable logo, rather than always try *spell* *it* *out* in words :D
