we're not trying to attack your opinion, and not once have we denounced your thoughts. apologies if it came off that way! i wanted to mention, this is just a photo competition. we're not trying to find the next monet or rembrandt, but we are just showcasing photographs that fellow enthusiasts want to share. it's all for fun & games. and yes, a select people do have better skills than others, but that is for all the other forum members to decide. if you take a look at previous winning pictures, they are pretty damn decent and can easily be put in a magazine or put up as a poster.

your opinion has been noted, and apologies if you have been insulted. we are just fellow z4 owners and lovers that appreciate a good picture when we see one.

Then don't... don't stir the pot as you have, don't post in the competition as you just did if this is the reason why you don't..... Or simply except that everyone has a preference and a opinion as you yourself just showed in this thread.

I guess you can apply that to anything.... this forum would exsist since i don't believe that any of us actually designed our Z4's... none of us work for BMW's engineering department and so our knowledge can't possibly be on part with a expert........ Fact is, we all know what we like, we all have opinions on anything and everything... much like how you have a opinion on how you think this contest should be done, i have a opinion on your commments.... and its all good... its ok that we all have opinion on different subjects... this forum would be pretty boring and none existant if it wasn't for our own personal opinions/preferences. Participate... or don't participate... it all doesn't really matter in the end.

I personally like senwar's pic.... for no other reason other then i like the way it looks. :fuelfire:

That mud showed the car being used properly - having hooned for 170 miles through the Kent countryside :driving:

Talk about over reaction to a bit of fun competition!
 
I try to look for the picture that just makes my jaw drop. It can be photoshop'd, good lighting, or a kickass background (mountains for example). I tend to avoid voting for the heavier photoshop'd picks though. I'll admit I'm an amateur photo guy (actually I don't even think I qualify that well) and I use a digital camera, which i'm sure is another strike against me. At any rate like others have said, this is for fun and not a critiquing photo competition, but I do know we have several people that look for things like lighting, wheel placement, color reflections all that stuff. Do I think there are times when someone with an excellent photo should win or come very close only to get 1 or 2 votes....yes, happens all the time. Not stopping me from entering though.


So with that, I'm going with citation and :popcorn:

Btw, atm I think JackB1 has the best photo.
 
just my two penneth but I think the perceived advantage the photoshopped pics gets is counterbalanced by the fact that a lot of people don't like it. Personally I love to see what people can do, but the fact that some don't acts like a form of handicapping system.

I am happy to have debate on this (or even mass-debate ;) ) but please lets keep it chilled, this is all a bit of fun! :D

BTW, some of you photo experts should post some of these on DP Review and let us see how they hold up.... I'm sure some of them are more than worthy and I'd enjoy seeing the comments.

I'm not a fan of Photoshopping in the comp either. To me that is more of an illustration of someone's technical prowess with the computer program.

What I do appreciate is when people have gone out and looked for a great location for a pic.

Oh, and I don't believe you should be able to vote for your own pic.

In the end we all get to post our pics and it's the peoples choice that wins :D

BTW - FemmeT is my fav so far :thumbsup:
 
Problem we have is what constitutes photoshopping a pic? Cropping it? Rotating it? It is so hard to judge what is photoshopped and what is not. Until I find a solution to that issue and the trouble it creates then photoshops will be allowed.

Funny that people complain about photoshop... nearly every professional pic you see on tv or in magazines has been photoshopped, the only difference is members on here are being a little more creative and creating different effects.
 
I post pictures that please me and I think that perhaps another member will enjoy if they look at them.

If someone tells me it's a shite picture because I did not have the right photoshop done to it, or the wrong ISO setting, then I'll listen, but primarily I think this is a car website not a photography site and people are mostly interested in seeing each others Zeds.

I sure do admire some people's skill and where they choose to focus their time, but I'll vote for the picture I like most regardless of if it's technically crap and will base that on the look of the car, location, and if it 'pleases' me'.
 
I agree with the "What is a photoshopped pic?"

What i have posted so far have been HDR pics... but if i crop the pic and add a boarder, is that a photoshopped?

Next round, i'll make sure to add a non-chopped pic
 
fflores, do whatever you like, your pics are awesome whether you win or not. I look forward to the monthly photo competition. One would think there is a cash prize based on some of the comments here. I personally the pics posted by z4dsun also, and wish he would continue to do so. The only pics I haven't liked are those by 2dogs. :lol: :poke:
