I can't see FemmeT's entry. Is it just me? The rest are visible.
I wonder why that hapens? I just get the frame and a small red cross in the corner. All others entries are OK, as they are ongoing on 99.9% of other posts.
From a photographic point of view (what I thought we were supposed to be voting on) FemmeT photo is far superior than aerobus's. It is framed better, the lighting is perfect, and the photo is exposed well with good colors.
This is why I don't enter any more. You can't ask people who don't know photography to vote on it. No one would want a lawyer's opinion on why the sink is broken, you'd ask a plumber.

You can't complain about people getting votes even though they may not be technically perfect, that's what art is about. If you wanted to sell a photo in the marketplace you have to take a pic people LIKE, not that may be technically perfect. Somewhat level's the playing field in some way (ok, not in all ways)
Look, I'm not going to debate what art is with a bunch of car people (refer to lawyer vs. plumber analogy). But I think everyone can agree that some art is better than others. There aren't too many people who are going to say that a 5 year old's drawing is better than David's Coronation of Napoleon. I'm not saying that FemmeT's photo is like David's or that Aerobus's photo is like a 5 year old's drawing, so I don't want anyone to draw that conclusion. In art, though, it is possible for something to be better than something else, there is technique, there is form, there is style, as well as opinion, but the former should not play second fiddle. From a technical stand point, FemmeT's photo is the best posted thus far. It does upset me that he is going to lose regardless of this. All the time with this contest a truly wonderful photo loses to one that is subpar. And that is because non-photographers are asked to vote on photography.

As I said, I no longer post in this competition for this reason. So don't think you are telling me anything new. I didn't mean to stir hostility, I just think that FemmeT deserves hell of a lot more respect than he is getting in this thread. His photo is beautiful.

I have to agree with sp3ctre, all the technique in the world won't sell pictures if you are a pro photographer. Most successful pro's have critics that can't stand their work as well many who adore it. While you need good technique to take "good" shots you also need to take pictures that people like and want first and foremost.
Just because Van Gogh wasn't appreciated in his life time doesn't mean that all artists who are worth anything weren't appreciated. David was practically a national hero for example, as were Monet, and Rodin. All of them were greatly appreciated during their lives. When Ansel Adams was alive everyone adored his photos, as they did with Dorothea Lange. If you are looking at what has survived the test of time, what is hanging in museums and what is remembered, it is the art with good technique. Also, I do feel that those who have good technique deserve it hell of a lot more than someone who just lucks out by producing something that people happen to like. They are the ones with the skills. I can just imagine how much guitar players cringed to hear that people liked the Sex Pistols, for example.

z4dsun, no one was attacking your opinion, they were merely pointing out by example (similar to your responses) that this is a car owners forum, not an art gallery. The rules specifically state that entry is merely for FUN and enjoyment of showing off your Z! BTW, I did not see anywhere that FemmeT is a guaranteed winner,,,,,I personally feel that there are several better pics myself, and will vote according to what I like, not necessarily the best "Formatted" pic :wink: Let's just agree to disagree and let it go at that. 
I would much rather view the pics, than read through a bunch critiqueing (SP?)
