The Army at the Olympics

Is G4S the same company that in the 90s was unable to stop prisoners from escaping their vans?

I believe it is according to Wikipedia (?)

hmmmmm

Who was it that thought it was a good idea to back an Olympic bid? Blair, Brown, Red Ken or someone further back in history?

Its the usual bollox scenario where the government fcuks up and blames the contractor who meekly accepts the blame because they know its best in the long run if they want to retain a relationship. My old employer was there several times.

Not only did this contract get ramped up AFTER it was let, from around 2000 bodies to 10,500, but honestly, where were they ever going to get all these people from....interviewed and trained six months previously and miraculously available for just six weeks work. They are really likely to be quality individuals aren't they.

It was always going to be a joke - the army and other security services should always have been the majority of the solution.

But then the Olympics was always going to be a joke. Having it so close to home and seeing stuff like the 'brand police' in action just underlines the overwhelming corporate and commercial cynicism of the whole event, and the potential horror of Danny Boyle's 'bucolic England' opening ceremony has already got me gagging.

I won't be putting my telly on again until its all over.

Same old story for the military. Nevertheless they'll get on with it and do a good job. But lets not forget personnel from the RAF and Navy are also being drafted in. It's not just the Army.

 Usual press laziness, like using 'England' when they mean 'Britain', 'Britain' when they mean 'UK'...........

Group 4 (the company who had issues with prisoners escaping from vans) merged with Securicor (the company who had numerous breaches in data security) in 2004 and became G4S. They are a completely, wholly, entirely differently-run organisation though. Probably.

So now, they only have problems with data escaping from vans..... probably.
If Carlsberg made screw-up-security-companies......................
