The Airbag Light Challenge...

Hi guys,

My airbag light has been on for a few months now & I've read that it's a common problem with the seat occupancy sensor on the Zed.

I picked up an OBD II cable recently and was able to reset / temporarily turn off the airbag light on my dash using INPA application. The light normally came back on after a day or two of normal driving however so today said I'd have a closer look at the problem...

Here is a screenshot of the error / fault codes I am getting back when I run a test on the car. I am hoping some tech geniuses out might help translate this for me & maybe we might be able to shed some more light on the issue....

Any ideas?

Thanks a mill from Ireland !

I would guess that either there is a faulty airbag control unit, or a faulty connection to it. I'm leaning towards the latter. No idea where IFH:0009 is though. It's not unheard of for work to be done involving one of the doors and someone either forgets to or improperly reconnects the airbag. Has any work been done in proximity to any airbags?

The power window bit may be nothing unless it returns.

Thanks bcworkz for the quick reply! Actually I had some trouble recently with my passenger side window regulator... I replaced the cable and during the process of re-installing managed to damage the housing so after a few days it stopped working again... I need to take the door apart again and try fix the housing... The cable is still intact just the housing which I think has caused the window to stop working...

Could this be linked to the airbag warning light?

BUMP...

Hey guys,

Have some spare time this week so hoping to tackle my airbag light challenge as I call it on my Zed ! :P

I bought a bypass unit on eBay & installed that & then reset all error codes using INPA but still no luck... :-(

Any suggestions on what I can look at next??

Thanks in advance!!

I have a spare occupancy sensor.

FYI, my airbag light was a faulty seatbelt pretensioner. (I bought new seats and the pretensioner must have got damp in the other guys garage or something). So I replace the buckle and tensioner and have had no issue since. It come under a funny circuit, something link rear left, or font left I can't quite remember, but it was almost hidden away.

If you removed the airbag when you did the window you may have damaged the little black plastic assembly that goes into the green airbag plug when it is connected to the door airbag. This confirms to the system that all is connected OK and stops the two terminals shorting out.

You just need to replace the plug, I bought an airbag off eBay that came with a plug, and only then realised I damaged the black plastic connector. I did see a guy make a replacement out of a credit card somewhere online but it looked too fiddly.

Thanks @RJS-Z$ @compynei !! I am thinking it might be something to do with my occupancy sensor / wiring?

I just ran some more tests on INPA & these are the results / error I am getting back for my Satellite B-pillar right.... My Satellite B-pillar left seems to be clear & no problems showing up there.....

It's saying I have an error "Occupation not defined..."

:-(

Please excuse my ignorant question, does the driver seat have an occupancy sensor?

Thanks again guys!!!

Considering your software is telling you there is occupancy detection, it's hardly in ignorant question. There is not an occupancy mat like in the passenger seat. There is a sensor that detects if the seatbelt is buckled, which appears to be a problem somewhere and what the software is referring to. The hall sensors are very reliable, I suspect a wiring problem. The sensor connects directly to the "B-pillar" satellite module (just above the floor actually). These are prone to water damage, I would check the connections there first.

Is that correct? I thought the drivers seat has no occupancy function, as if the car is moving, there must be someone in the drivers seat so the seatbelt must be fastened!!!

As said, I do have a spare occupancy sensor I think.
