The 2016/17 Z4s?

I was curious to what the new shape for the Z4 will be considering it's been the same for the last 5-6 years without any real facelift in between. I've looked all over google and it's mostly concepts (though that Zagato concept looks really classy), does anyone know of any credible pics of the next Z4? Do you guys think it might be all electric?

Or maybe we might all end up getting Jag F-Types :o

AGGGGGGGGGGGGGGRH - electric!!!!!!!!! run and hide everyone :poke:

OK, the i8 is a cool looking car, but vastly over priced at £128K for a 2nd hand one! :o And impractical.

how do you charge an electric car? Plug it into the grid. Where does the power come from? Mainly coal-fired generators.

Discuss

Yeah I've seen the i8 a few times at the dealer but so far never on the road. It's too new to do price comparisons on used, atm used=new. I think it's far more attractive than any Tesla.
Charging is easy there are charge stations everywhere you don't need to do it at home or have a garage. I live in a small village and there is even a charge point next to the shops opening next month. Actually parking can be really easy because in many places there are prioritised electric parking. Electric parking is like the new disabled parking!

So far it looks like no new Z4 is planned. There hasn't been a single spy-shot to my knowledge nor any hint from BMW. Which suggests the current model will have to soldier on in the showrooms for a while yet.

If you do a search there is lots and lots on this. It's already been muted that the next iteration with not be a Z4, keep in mind that BMW made the Z3 and then then Z4 under the E86/E86 and then kept the name for the E89 so there is form that the name will possibly change.

It's already know that the next Z will be a venture between BMW and Toyota and at the Paris motors show iirc one of the BMW designers said its more like 2020 before the next Z'd will be out.

Cars in this section of the market no matter the manufacturer don't sell well. People want diesels for company cars and motorway cruisers, they are pretty impractical to a lot of people and SUVs are a much more popular choice. BMW probably aren't really in too much of a hurry to get another one out when it may even sell less than the E89, especially if they don't get it right.

Seen two on the road. Underwhelmed. One of the few cars that looked better in the pics than real life. Each to their own.

My mum saw one the other day, she was behind it. She said it was an i something so I asked hatchback or coupe? She said hatchback so I was like i3 but she was like no it wasn't that, I know what that looks like as she had a good look round one at a services. She couldn't quite believe that when I showed her a picture that it was the same car. She was convinced from the rear it wasn't a £100k plus car  but then she loves the R8 so that says it all!

I saw something recently that seemed to indicate the replacement will be 2016/17, and it will be called the Z5. This is the one being developed with Toyota apparently. Could even be FWD :o

Latest I heard was the Z4 would be Z3 in size and back to a fabric hood, I imagine there won't be anything forthcoming until 2018 using the replacement 1 series front wheel drive chassis.

Tim.

I think 2016/7 is a non-starter Bing. There have been no spy shots at all. Nothing. That means any new model is a long way off. BMW always "allow" new models to be photographed disguised. I reckon you are right about it not being a Z4. All the talk about the replacement has also been speculation. There's been nothing from BMW.

There are a couple of I8`s near me, and I saw one at our local hospital in winter in the car park and the owner had left the window open and it was filling up with snow, so he obvioulsy had buckets of money to not give two hoots about a 128K car

Some sites seem to suggest that they are sti hopeful that it will be a 2017 launch but as there was no concept at Geneva this year it looks highly unlikely. Some more on it here http://www.bmwblog.com/2015/03/09/bmw-aims-to-replace-z4-roadster-before-2020/

No chance a new model is coming in 2016, and I would doubt 2017 either.

It takes a considerable time between announcements and a car on sale:
* BMW E89 Z4 seen driving in April 2008, on sale in 2009
* Civic Type R first acknowledged in 2012, on sale soon
* BMW 2-series was first 'noticed' in October 2010 (along with the M2 and 'Megacity' i3), on sale in 2014

If BMW can simply discount the existing model and keep selling it then I suspect that is more profitable than launching something new. I can't see BMW developing a whole new design when Volkswagen are able to use the same underpinnings from the Golf\Leon\Octavia etc in their TT and make it sell.

My guess: 2020 on sale, a petrol electric plug-in hybrid, called the Z4 (even number for coupe), variant of the announced plug-in 4-series with some hybrid help from Toyota

Everywhere? Really? Not sure where you live, but the nearest charging point to me is in York, 40 odd miles & 1hr 20minutes away. Not exacty "handy" :)

Front. Wheel. Drive. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

There was a piece in autocar a while ago where someone from BMW was confirming that the co-production with toyota will be the replacement for Z4 , dont remember him talking about electric but he did say it would be a larger vehicle , why?

with regard to i8 I wasnt sure about it but someone at my gym has one and having seen it a few times am starting to warm to it , bit out of my price bracket sadly
